I Am A Scientologist

cybrbeast says...

gggggeee, I can and will *promote this. Yes this guy completely trashes Scientology, but if you actually look into Scientology or listen to Tom Cruise on Scientology and see how ridiculous it truly is, you will realize that this is quite good parody. I'm not saying that Scientology is much more ridiculous than Christianity or most other religions, but those were written so long ago that you can't really blame the writers for what they did, Scientology on the other hand was written by a megalomaniacal science-fiction writer.

I have rewatched this parody quite a few times and it still cracks me up

Lets see, that would be the Torah, or Old Testament as some call it..

The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

Wouldn't It Be Cool If US CEOs Were Like This

Bidouleroux says...

This is silly. Japan is still first and foremost an Asian culture built upon social hierarchy. This is a great CEO and an example to all, but I hate its inference that all Japanese CEOs are like this and all US CEOs are megalomaniacs by cherry-picking one company from each country.
The truth, as always, lies somewhere in the middle. But unfortunately, the middle is never a good story.

Japan is indeed a hierarchical society, but it is a society where when an employee bows the boss bows too. What you're missing is that the American society is as much if not more hierarchical than Japan, only that fact is not formally recognized. The difference is that the American hierarchy is based on money more than on position. That's why there's idiots everywhere finding excuses for the ridiculous salaries of American C.E.O. Basically, the rationalizations are all based on the illusion called the "American Dream": maybe some day you too will be filthy rich, then you certainly wouldn't want a mob trying to put you down! In comparison, most Japanese know their place and will only accept what they can reciprocate: for example they will accept a raise only if they feel they can take on more responsibilities, even if they're in lower management and know they have no chance at a promotion because of the position game (of course, as in everything there are exceptions).

Feeling a Little Confident?

Bidouleroux says...

>> ^imstellar28:
the foundation of communism is collectivism. the abolition of private property is a corollary.

The abolition of private land property should be one of the first acts toward a communist or stateless society.

From wikipedia's entry on the communist manifesto:
10 Planks of the Communist Manifesto

1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all right of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8. Equal liability of all to labour. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equable distribution of the population over the country.
10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, &c., &c.

See the thing that starts with 1? The abolition of private property (i.e. land ownership) IS collectivism. Collectivism means collective ownership. You can't collectively own a factory but not the property it's built on. Well you can, but you would be dangerously inconsequential. A "communist State" is in fact an oxymoron. The State is only there as a representative of the collective to arrange the conditions necessary for the establishment of the ultimately stateless society, otherwise known as communist society. Of course such concentration of power, even though "temporary", is a prime target for megalomaniac tyrants.

But then again, if Ayn Rand is your only source on communism, it's no wonder you don't understand anything.

Nobel prize winner Paul Krugman slapping Bill O'reilly

13185 says...

I really, REALLY just want to see the following: someone gets interrupted by o'reilly, the person then calmly tells o'reilly that was very rude and politely asks him to not do it again. Then he again politely asks o'reilly to not shove his finger in his face. This will have to be repeated a few times as o'reilly will no doubt ignore him. He then gives o'reilly a final warning that if he persists with this rude behaviour, he will be forced the kick the sh1t out of him. o'reilly will of course once again ignore him (as he is an egotistical megalomaniacal arse-fart). Person X then gets up and tears o'reilly another ring-piece.

US Missile Deal Enrages Russia (Part 1)

"nobody really understands it" (2:00m)

That's because it's fucking insane.

Personally, I'm getting sick and tired of seeing "Russia Enraged", "US Condemns", "China Ambivalent". Quit personifying countries and cultures based on their megalomaniac leadership. (Edit: Netrunner, not directed at you, but headlines everywhere)

Racism? Nationalism? Does anyone actually wonder where that shit comes from when they read newspaper headlines? Anyone who has ever travelled anywhere would easily sit down with anyone from *any* other country and have a cup of coffee with them, and be able to (language differences aside) have a sane and reasonable conversation with them about almost *anything* and it would not end in so much as a fistfight. Thanks to the internet, you don't even need to actually leave your home to realize that the phrase "we are One" is true for a massive majority of people all over the world.

What the fuck is this shit? In a world with a global internet, do we really still need to listen to these egotistical gasbag leaders? Democracy? I see no interest of the masses being held up here. Argh.

What does it matter what the people that develop them are like? How does that make a Mac good? The people at Intel could all be a bunch of assholes that yell at their mothers, but they still make a good CPU...

Some good points raised Farhad - but you shouldn't confuse the over-hyping Mac cult with the actual machines and software. Forget all the crappy commercials. If you judge that way, you are guilty of surface viewing and the same vapidity as the marketing spinners.

I love Linux and OSS too. I wish Apple was Linux- I'd feel much better about my purchases, but so far democracy hasn't produced a better experience for the desktop user. (witness the Gnome KDE war - gaaah!) I'm still hopeful.
