A Little Bit Opera, A Little Bit....
That's it, I think I've finally figured it out.
Every night, each host is put into a cold-storage unit until the next show. When they're unboxed for the next taping, their minds are wiped and reverted to an early stage of childhood, so they may emerge into a world of light, color and fantasy, and gawk genuinely at the most mundane, absurd, and overproduced shit-shows humanity has yet to create.
The talking heads on most of these reality shows are the personified equivalent of the laugh-track. Just there to convince you to feel whatever emotion the creators want you to have.
Anyway, opera!
Abortion Texas Style - Reporter destroys Politicians
Does this show actually have a laugh track?
Dealing with Bullies
I'm just realizing that the forced laugh track on this show is just as bad as The Big Bang Theory.
"Some of the guys aren't even remotely smiling" Amy rocks it
Um, you’re still overthinking it. I don’t think comedy and jokes are worth dissecting, like we’re at some seminar with Powerpoint slides showing intersecting circles and flowcharts and phylogenetic trees showing comedy lineage, trying to extract the "why".
I don’t think men are “threatened” by her comedy (as someone here wrote) any more than I’m threatened by seeing a video of Miley Cyrus shouting “eat my pu**y” into the mic and then gyrating against a blow up doll. I’m sure somebody out there must find that very shocking and sexy.
Didn’t mean to hit Pause on the laugh track, I just don’t find her funny for no other reason than she doesn't make me laugh. To each his own.
Yeah, but it is complicated on my end. Hence I find her brilliant.
I love that you picked that particular "joke". I didn't like it at first -- I thought it was crude and I was instantly uncomfortable. And in the very next moment, I got it. I got what she was doing. She was taking a woman's body and the way it works AND TAKING THE SHAME OUT OF IT.
Now, if you aren't a person who is in touch with the shame that most women have about how their bodies work, that is just a crude nothing of a nothing.
But I am a woman who carries that shame. She exploded it. She made it on par with the tired old joke of men and their skid mark underwear. She turned it into NOTHING.
It isn't a very good joke. I agree with you.
And it is brilliant for what it achieves.
And that is why I love her. She does this over and over and over again. She is de-shaming women about their bodies and their sexuality and their mistakes. Guys are really good at making fun of themselves. It is one thing I really admire about men, and as I get older, even before Amy came along, I have thought we should emulate that characteristic. Amy is doing that for us. Bless her, really really bless her.
But I don't think you get the joke. Many women don't get the joke -- they are stuck in the shame and think she is just crude.
It's okay. You don't have to get the joke. You also don't have to enjoy anal fisting. Ha.
Father John Misty: "Bored in the USA" - David Letterman
The laughter isn't from the audience - a laugh track is part of the song. I'm sure the audience was confused. The piano was a nice touch.
Real Life Mr. Magoo
Needs more laugh track!
Ordering a pizza when you are high
This might have been funnier without the stupid animations. And fake laugh-track.
Clown Panties
No, it's a bit more than that as described above in my take on the overall quality and slide of most entertainment for the masses. She's cute, glad she's having her 15 mins, glad she's offering an alternative to standard fare, empowering females, etc. Could say a lot of great things about her as well but I didn't-I spoke to other aspects besides my thinking her schtick un-funny overall. Cue laugh-track, light applause sign, break to commercial, fuck most television up it's ass.
Soooo what you are saying is you don't care for her comedy. You don't find it funny. It doesn't appeal to you. I think i get it now. Thank you for that cuz from your first comment i just wasn't sure. Also youre wrong about all of it cuz i say so.
Silicon Valley S1E1/Pilot Full Episode (TVMA) (HBO)
Thank you for posting it. I just read about it in a week old paper and quite honestly was going to look it up after I sifted through what was sifted and low and behold here it is. You saved me work, I also thoroughly enjoyed the show, no laugh track like that other sciency big bang, I hate laugh track but like the story of the show so I keep up with it, this is my new favourite geeky show.
