Undocumented Immigrant Who Works in a Trump Hotel Speaks Out

Jinx says...

Remember kids, if you had the skill and determination to be born in America then you have earned the right for a job!

ps. fuck those entitled welfare leeches taking all our work!

It's certainly a complex economic issue that I won't pretend to have any deep understanding of, I just think the jingoism stinks something awful.

@bcglorf

i think it is rather you who missed my point and are aligning with the same argument @A10anis laid out.

i am not dismissing the horrific violence perpetrated by "terrorists".
what i AM dismissing is the "lesser of two evils" premise.

because it is hypocrisy on steroids.

now i realize you and i highly disagree on this matter.
thats ok..we can disagree.

people can use all the nationalistic jingoism they wish to make this situation a more "feel good" narrative.
they can point to the dead, tortured and beheaded to justify their own brand of violence.
they can flag-wave and pat themselves on the back that our form of violence is somehow "less" violent and "more" noble.

and it still would not change the fact that the reasons behind normal people turning to fundamentalist, reactionary violent groups can be found at our own feet.

this is the part of the equation that so many people i talk to seem to either willingly or unwittingly...ignore.

responsibility lies at the feet of those who created this violent ballet, just as it does with those who perpetrate the violence.

its like you hitting me in the face everyday at school and one day i hit you back.
but with a bat.
and you run to the principle and cry to have me arrested for hitting you in the face with a bat.
ignoring the fact you had been violent with me for many days prior.

moral question:who is wrong?
or in the context of this discussion:who is more evil?

There just isn't anything particularly interesting about it. It has the same over-stylization as Snyder's other films, combined with a few metric tons of historical inaccuracy and a few pinches right-wing jingoism.

See @doogle, that's what you get for using the "sarcasm" box.

oh.. and *promote, for the bit at the end about the US jingoism playing right into hands of the jihadists.

Unpatriotic? Wanting to know your enemy inside and out and facing reality is far from unpatriotic. So I'm going to assume I'm misreading your sarcasm and satire.

What is the purpose of saying such things in the first place?
Do people in other countries make similarly vain nationalistic comments?

Under what criteria?
Do you have any way--other than unthinking jingoism--to back up that statement?

This song describes perfectly the blind-moronic fervor whipped-up for this current president's first campaign. His platform?? Jingoism, marketing, and nothing substansive whatsoever save the men behind the manequin with their pop-cycle sticks up his asshole.

Frenchman's Bobsleigh fear meltdown

Did we expect another reaction from a Frenchman?

Its weird how French have this reputation I think it comes from the pre–Revolutionary French upper class but can not really be applied to the French as a whole.

Although its fun discrimination and the most successful discriminatory terms seem to take one element of truth and then apply it to a whole nationality/race of people.
I know the surrender aspect of WW2 comes into it but I don't think France had much choice and it would have cost them more life to not surrender , Its also well documented how well the French held back the Germans with resistance groups which is a far harder and riskier form of fighting than standard troop combat / full front engagements ( from the perspective of an individual solder anyway).
Also the French have many totally mental people that needlessly risk there lives lol I mean they originated allot of parkur , and crazy types of skying.
Still I agree its amusing to poke fun at people even if its unfounded
BTW , Brits have bad teeth , amercans are all fat , germans are all rocket scientists , asains are all amazing at math and paino playing, australians eat cangaroo all day and chase crocodiles , russians all drink vodcah 24/7.

There's no getting around the fact that, in a situation where it comes down to standing up for what you believe in to the death or giving up, giving up is always going to be seen as the "coward's way out", and that's why it's stuck to them.

It doesn't matter if it's the best option, or the only option, or anything else. It's jingoism, linked to war, of course things like that are seen through the overly masculine eyes of "i'd rather die than submit."

This is why france has a bad rep, because of the world war. And i notice that a lot of people who i first heard say that are in the age range of being impressionable during or just after the war. But more recently i believe the country most associated with surrender is the italians but don't ask me why, i don't subscribe to it.

But if it wasn't that, it'd be something else.

The Most Astounding Fact (Neil DeGrasse Tyson)

Everything NDT says sounds like the most astounding fact he's ever heard, and that you should be astounded by it too. His meter - every enunciation, accentuation, and pause - sounds affected and I, for some reason, can't stand to listen to him. I've tried. He talks about things I'm interested in and I enjoy reading what he has written (I have "Pluto Files" and "Space Chronicles" on my Kindle), but when he starts talking, it just sounds like he's talking to five year-olds to me.
F ck it, upvote.

I know exactly what you're saying. There's a british version of this and he's called Brian Cox. Every single time he speaks, i feel my skin crawling that he knows that he has to try and manipulate the audience into feeling emotion that they just don't feel.

I subscribe to the principle as well. I agree, the connectedness of the universe is absolutely amazing. When you think about the familiar vs. the unfamiliar, the known vs. the unknown.... we know each other, we know the planet we live on and we feel safe here, but there's an infinite chasm in all directions around us. Sometimes when i consider this i can give myself vertigo.

If i were trapped in a cave with the most fundamental islamist ever, and we didn't know what lay on the other side of the collapsed wall, we'd eventually cooperate and work together to get out, to see what's there. Maybe we find something great out there, or maybe we have to build some defences to make ourselves safer in the cave.

Put us on earth, and we put bombs in each other's homes. The knowledge of how amazing the universe is really does lift you up, places you above all the stupid racism and general jingoism. But you can't fake it or inspire it, you either feel it or you don't.

Having said that, at least they're getting the field of physics more attention, and maybe they might influence some kids whilst they're influence-able.

But American Exceptionalism is not jingoism or arrogance. It is a quick way to summarize the American spirit of enlightened self-interest combined with personal freedom and entrepreneurism. The liberal left hates to admit it, but the US Constitution, economy, and position in the world was no accident of chance or random luck. Our constitution was a model to the rest of the world. Our freedoms and way of life still make us the envy of just about everyone. People still want to come here in droves to escape oppression, poverty, and intolerance. America was innovating, inventing, testing, and producing when the rest of the Western world was literally standing still. This is not arrogance or snootiness. It is just fact. American Exceptionalism summarizes this - and apparently makes Proglibdyte leftists squeal like stuck pigs when they hear the words.

Where in there was a justification for global empire? We aren't debating words "the left hates." We're debating why we were attacked by a handful of radical folks. Further we're debating whether or not our military engagement, specifically since WWII, has been productive in any measurable way. Can you provide some examples?

>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:

The only reason the Proglibdyte left is such a fan of Ron Paul is because he is a non-interventionist. The liberal left's vision of the ideal world is the United States giving all its cash - no questions asked - to the United Nations. At that point the US is supposed to sit down, shut up, and do whatever the UN orders them to do. Then - in the minds of the left - we will have world peace. RP would do about 90% of that by just being an isolationist. He won't give the UN any money, but the left will settle for the US just shutting down all its involvement (especially military).

Yep, gotta agree with this. "American exceptionalism" is really jingoism. The Chinese believe in Chinese Exceptionalism just as much - and it's just as ugly and misguided. I'll be glad with nationalism fades away. >> ^kymbos:

Sure, but to take that on face value you must believe there's something genuinely special about America's 'freedom'. That's the hubris. Every country calls itself the best on Earth - most other countries understand they're not that 'special'. America's been calling itself special for so long its people actually believe it.
America is targeted because it dominates politically, culturally, and definitely because it intervenes in other countries out of perceived self interest.
