LMFAHS. Haven't laughed so hard no a sifted video in a while. I love Friends. It was all downhill after the first few seasons, but it was still a great 10 years.

Joey and Chandler never quite lost their appeal, though.

I think you meant Ross and Chandler.

Joey is frequently more and more disappointing after season 2. The writers started consistently using insultingly obvious setups and ridiculously unrealistic punchlines. They really devolved him into the guy so stupid he can't open a milk carton.

Christopher Hitchens accepting the Richard Dawkins Award

I'm not belittling you. I'm just saying if you take away one thing from a man like Hitchens its to be your own agent in the name of reason. Do you think he'd rather live forever in his own mortal vessel or live immortally by inspiring others to follow truth like he has?>> ^A10anis:

>> ^rottenseed:
Great...then spend the next 5 years of your life educating yourself so that you may pick up where he left off. It's indirect, but it just may work.>> ^A10anis:
In all seriousness, and honesty, I would give up 5 years of my life, to allow Hitch 5 more years of his.

What i said was honest and true. No more no less. I don't need you to belittle my gesture with your trite comment. Sydney Carton to you, no doubt, could have done more than just give his life for another. Do you know my age, or my education? Of course not, so don't make assumptions. Take some things at face value my friend, what I said, was what I meant.

My 12 year old daughter begged me to buy these for her. I was reluctant at first but gave in so she'd shut up. Anyhow what a great idea! She has become very popular in school! So much so her friends show up every day after school. I swear 3 or 4 of her little guy friends appear after school asking if my daughter can come out and play! She's so popular and special and this has given her a great confidence boost!

She's is now 6 months pregnant, but on the other hand her popularity and confidence boost has made her the most popular whore in junior high! I am so proud of my little girl. For her 13th birthday she's asking for carton of marlboros, a clit piercing and a tatoo. She's such a darling white trash whore.

Thank you Sticky Nips!

anger is something i am quick to as a result of my PTSD unfortunately, particularly on subjects i am passionate about. Therapy is a long ongoin process =)
apologies all around for my curt manner.

now, to the dialogue at hand.

well firstly those statistics, since you've conceded them to be mere presuppositions, are exactly that: presuppositions. There arent any real statistics that i could produce to rebut it, however, if we use alcohol consumption and prohibition as a model, one could expect as much as a 30% increase in heroin use with its legalization, which is to say, not much at all. the idea of everyone and their mom suddenly hopping on the heroin train is a ridiculous fantasy at best.

while you may be right about the lifelong heroin user, i dont have to speculate about long term alcohol abusers maintaining healthy lives. that being said, this defense (if youre using it as one) is a moot point unless you support alcohol prohibition as well.

putting away traffickers in the netherlands would be the same in the states were drugs regulated and controlled. again, alcohol is the model for this. You think its legal to traffic alcohol just because alcohol is made legal? nope, you'll still get canned for that. follow the model. sticking with heroin, were it to be made legal its not something you'd pick up at your local grocery store. if the government regulates and controls it, firstly you will have fewer overdoses because the potency will be precisely known and consistent (the same as alcohol). Overdoses from heroin (among other things) is largely due to unexpected higher than "normal" street potency's. The same thing occurred during prohibition with alcohol poisoning. Potency would be known in the same way alcohol content (proofs) and tar and nicotine content in cigarettes (labeled right on the packs and cartons).

Now, not anyone can purchase cigarettes or alcohol or a gun for that matter. precisely because of regulation and control. in the same way, not everyone should be able to purchase marijuana, heroin, or whatever your poison is. regulated and controlled.

now i flatly rejected your hypothetical position because it was absurd (much like my brain synapse one was). you and i could draw up all sorts of imaginative what-ifs but theyre not gonna serve any purpose other than drawing up a good laugh.

you know, i also believe personal freedoms end where harm to others begin. but this certainly doesnt support your prohibition stance at all. Looking at it another way, you have the right to drink as little or as much alcohol as you want. but if you get too drunk and drive (and get caught) you'll get arrested. so while you still have that freedom to drink alcohol, that same freedom does not infringe on my freedom to press charges should you become too intoxicated and harm me. i know that sounds a bit convoluted, im not as articulate as i'd like to be right now but you catch my drift ya?

in closing, every piece of your defense doesnt hold an ounce of water when held up to the model of prohibition of the 20's, it's "side effects", and it's eventual outcome.

sorry again for being so curt earlier. therapy for my condition takes a good while =)

TDS: Happy Meal Toy Ban

peggedbea says...

you obviously live in canada or somewhere else where public school teaches kids science, math, sex ed and healthy lifestyle choices.. instead of simply the skills they need to work in retail or join the military.

also, humanity as whole doesn't really understand nutrition. there are plenty of decent, resonable parents who don't have a clue what a balanced diet actually looks like and actually try to raise their kids to have good habits.

also, i don't think taking away a 5 cent toy is going to do anything about the people who eat fast food often enough for it to be a major problem. it has already become a habit .. my son probably wouldnt care about going to mcdonalds ever again if he wasnt going to get a toy, but we also eat mostly plants at home and grab fast food less than once a month on average.

banning high fructose corn syrup would do more to curb obesity. this is epicly stupid. like throwing a bigger warning label on a carton of cigarettes and felating yourself for combating lung cancer.
In reply to this comment by Sagemind:
"So basically everyone should be responsible for raising the kids...except their parents? Who's driving the kids to McD? Who's paying for the food? Who ultimately decides to celebrate a kid's birthday at McD? And who fails to provide a healthy diet at home that would lessen the negative impact of an occasional McD meal?" - campionidelmondo

You also have to realize that Education is education. That's what school is there for. I don't teach my kids everything they need to know, some things they learn in school or on their own. Like mine, most kids are smart. Mine will call me on something I get wrong. They do have differing opinions that I don't always share.

As an adult, If I like McDs (though I don't), and I go there all the time. My kids should have that opportunity to learn facts contrary to my habits and be able to call me on it.

The school system is there to help guide our kids in their education in the areas the parents fall short. This is true for science, math and even shop class. If I hate sports, should my kids not be allowed to take Phys Ed? They already have health and nutrition in school (part of science class I believe) why not show them the film and make it part of the curriculum.

We already do it with "Family life" class (or what ever your town calls it) - kids learn all about sex, STDs, personal health and hygiene and are better off for it.
Why should Nutrition be different?

WTF Canada... Milk in bags??

Mashiki says...

>> ^arvana:
I can't believe nobody has mentioned Homo Milk yet -- that is far more WTF to me than bag milk. And yes, there is Homo Bag Milk...

I don't know why you'd say that, homo is shorted for homogenized(aka the shit tastes like water). Most places just don't call it that. Personally I'm a 3-4% mf drinker that likes non-homogenized milk, but I grew up on a farm. In Ontario, where we have more cows than people.

What I can buy at my local grocer, 3L containers don't exist either. 1L to 4L jugs. Bags 1-4L, homo/non. Cartons 1-4L, can't buy actual whipping cream so I have to make my own. 0.25-0.5L speciality types for cooking. And I live in a city with a population under 50,000. What I would like to buy at the store is milk in glass containers. Over in Kitchener/Waterloo and a few other places, theres a couple of companies that still do daily milk delivery in glass containers. I have to say, nothing quite like getting it every day in your milk box. And I have one of those too!

This is not surprising at all. Germany has them, too!

Some recent developments are really cool. Brodowin makes some that have an inflated airbubble down the side, that adds stability and also functions as s handle. Also they have a folded in base (similar to Capri Sun), so they can actually stand up.

According to their website the packaging is very light (16grams), so it causes less waste. On top it produces less greenhouse gases, and also uses less energy and water in the manufacturing process compared to cartons or bottles. So they ARE less harmful to the environment!

Also I always thought keeping the light out adds to the preservability, so I wonder why the Canadian ones are transparent.

I'd be interested to hear the justifications for her justifications of putting milk in a bag.

So, yes, you can recycle the plastic bags. You can also recycle plastic jugs and paper cartons. You can even grow more paper cartons and your milk doesn't taste like plastic. I don't know about the bags, but the plastic jugs can produce some funky flavored milk.

How are bags easier to ship than cartons? Cartons would seem to be more resilient and that nice boxy shape they have makes them easy to pack and stack.

WTF Canada... Milk in bags??

Xax says...

Interesting... I've never considered that the milk bag is something exclusive to us. The biggest problem with bags is it's more difficult to be lazy and drink from the bag than it is from a carton. And yeah, it's a pain to always be cutting the corner. I've always assumed that it's the cheapest way to buy milk, but I'll have to price the cartons next time I buy groceries.

WTF Canada... Milk in bags??

ulysses1904 says...

I grew up in upstate New York and my mom bought milk in these bags for awhile back in the early 1970s. I guess because it was cheaper, I don't know. The bags sprung the occasional leak while in transit but besides that they worked pretty well. Then we went back to milk jugs and cartons and I've never looked back.

WTF Canada... Milk in bags??

Bruti79 says...

They have the milk bags in most places in Canada. I didn't know it was a Canadian thing only, until a few years ago. It is a lot cheaper to buy it in a bag than a carton, though.
