Speed Bump

Sweet, next time I'm on the freeway I'll go 5 miles an hour since 55 is just a "suggestion". I wonder how far I'll get before I get a ticket for impeding traffic?

That is just ridiculous. Last week I drove through a neighborhood that had these big long speed bumps on the road. I was going the speed limit, but if you go faster than 5 MPH on the bumps your front bumper bottoms out when you come off it. They don't give much of a warning either, the speed bump sign is about 5ft. from the first bump. If they're going to have a 25 MPH speed limit here, they at least need to have speed bumps that you can go over at the fucking speed limit.

The limit is a limit, not a requirement. It's the fastest you're allowed to go, not the speed at which you must travel. Simple fact is that the slower you go the safer you and other road users are. If the speed bumps make you slow down below the speed limit then they're doing their job.

Quebec has minimum speed posted on its freeways: "100 km/h maximum -- 60 km/h minimum". First place I'd ever seen that. Me likey.

It is not a simple fact that the slower you go the safer you are. People who drive too slowly can be a serious danger on the road as well. Eg, those assholes who don't understand that you shouldn't merge onto a highway at 40 mph. That's more likely to cause a wreck than someone who is driving a bit over the speed limit.

Yeah, 'cause they're totally merging onto a highway in this video. It's not a slow residential street at all.

The speed limit is the maximum safe speed for a road based on zone and road conditions. If the posted limit is 25, you should be able to safely drive 25, but the speed bumps make it unsafe to drive faster than 5 MPH. The speed bumps weren't panted or marked, other than the sign right where they began. They aren't the type in this video, they're longer and gradual so they don't stand out. They made driving on this road less safe and efficient because of the constant slowing down and speeding up.

@chilaxe

So what you're saying is.. you're a cowardly white privileged bigot who's too afraid to leave the safety of his software & champagne fortress and confront the real problems of the world?

Cause we all know that Silicon Valley has nothing to do with "societal decay".

I mean, sure companies like Apple deny hard-working Americans high-paying jobs/careers in the Technology Sector by exploiting cheap labor in Socialist countries like China. But that's just want any good cold and calculating capitalist would do.

OH OH! I got the perfect bumper sticker for you "I Hate Socialism.. but I Loove my Ipad. Vote Yes on Apples for Americans"

Then you could pass around a petition demanding that Apple build a new factory in Oakland.

You know, to stop all the societal decay and give those dirty niggers and spics something to do with their lives.

Why don't you fuckin' move then.
Oh wait, then you couldn't complain about how shitty your life is under this oppressive Marxist regime.

I live in Silicon Valley, so I'm insulated from the societal decay.

I hardly ever interact with people who aren't techies, so the only way I know that California's been turned into the dumbest state in the country is from the news.

Don't stop in the outer lane!!

jmd says...

I see no tailgating here. He has not been following the car long enough for one. It is clear that as the driver pulls up behind him, the guy in front taps his break and it looks like its a fairly congested line of cars. Well no one slams on their break in these, they generally try and adjust their distance by letting off the gas which is what the cam-driver here was doing. It is hard to see but cars infront of him may also have stopped, or maybe he hit something on the road and went to stop?

Not enough information, but I can safely rule talegating as the problem, if this guy stops in the road cause someone is on his bumper for less then 10 seconds then he would have been dead long ago.

Sounds like my life...every few months there's a new door ding or dent. And every time I wash my car I am forced to realize how many times this has happened.

Wife and I were stopped for a red light and the guy in front of us rolled backwards into us. Now we used to drive a truck with a big chrome bumper, so at that slow speed I don't imagine there was any damage, but when we started laughing was when stepped out of his car holding a chicken drumstick and walked up to my window and asked why we hit him. My wife and I replied simultaneously, "You backed into us!" He took a thoughtful bite of his chicken, chewed for a moment, then got back into his car and drove away.

What. The. Hell.

I backed into someone's car the other day and ruined his bumper. Then I left him a note, and he got in touch with me later to exchange insurance info.

Mini Kart Driver Goes Crazy

Sagemind says...

At first I thought maybe he was over-reacting but on restarting the video several times, that guy was not only tailgating him, he was pushing (bumper up under the other guys bumper) the other driver from before the time they even got on screen.

The gut in front was in retaliation/education mode - and the rear driver needed some educating!
