Does it bother you that a high % of sifted videos are straight from Reddit? (User Poll by rottenseed)

I use reddit as well as probably 50 other sources to look for videos. I go through all these sites every day and spend hours looking for suitable videos. I look for things that I really like as well as what I think other people on this site will enjoy. I've noticed that most of the "good" videos that I've found on other sites tend to be posted on reddit shortly afterwards because they use the same sources to find their videos. If you'll notice, many videos are posted on our site long before they are even posted on reddit. I'm betting people on reddit look for OUR top videos and post them on THEIR site.

If I'm expected to not use sources such as reddit to find videos and rely solely on videos from youtube channels I subscribe to, then you would all be enjoying a lot of banal cat video submissions from me. Which would you prefer?

I started off with MJ and the Beach Boys at age 5. Then around 2nd grade it was Vanilla Ice & MC Hammer. Then 3rd it became Ice-T, NWA, Ice Cube. 4th grade it became Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse. 5th Grade it was Kyuss, Jesus Lizard, Melvins, Nirvana. 6th grade it was local punk bands, Lookout! Records, Minor Threat, Rancid... 7th grade I delved into the heart of Legendary DIY underground punk music. Ebullition records (Econochrist, Born against, Downcast, Spitboy, Iconoclast, Los Crudos), , Gravity Records (Heroin, Angel Hair, Antioch Arrow, Clikatat Ikatowi), Dischord (Fugazi, Hoover, Rites of Spring). The list goes on and on. The next ten years were all about underground hardcore/punk/noise/power-violence/sludge/grind/doom.

Then I moved to San Francisco. LOL. I'm an Aquarius. AQUARIUS RECORDS!!!!! I still listen to some of that stuff from time to time. A LOT of it was way ahead of it's time. These kids these days can't hold a candle to genuine, innovative, raw DIY music.

There is no tailgating in this video. I personally follow further behind people than this guy, but I see these distances every day as normal drivers. I call total fault on the front most vehicle.

Rail against it, but Photoshop has helped fat, ugly, spotty models get work as glamourpusses for years now. These below-average models would never have found work in the industry without Photoshop giving casting directors, editors and photo retouchers the power to make anyone beautiful. And it's economically sound in these recession-hit days. Why pay big bucks for a beautiful model when you can take an ordinary-looking person and make them beautiful in post-production?

doesn't get it....

I shoulda ticked the sarcasm box, I guess. Sigh

Thanks, Dudes! I'm still about the same, tho.

Man QM, you have lightened up over these last few days! I like the new you! I'm going to upvote you even though I still disagree with you on other things.

No one is harder on Prez Soetoro than me and I think his sanctioned removal of another turbaned anus from the planet is just wonderful. There are plenty of American citizens who are enemies of legitimate American government, such as the entire taxocrat party.
Just kidding.
On a more serious note, His Earness never takes the killing of his fellow Muslim brothers lightly.
(Just kidding, he's a closet atheist).

Criticalthud, the links you posted dont seem very credible and while they do use actual data, its their interpretation of said data were they lose credibility. http://www.detailshere.com/earthquakeactivity.htm
Just at a glance, this site claims there are more earthquakes now than ever, because in the 1970 there were around 4000 earthquakes, and in 2002 there were just over 23 000 earthquakes. Probability does play a role in science, but so does critical thinking. When i see these numbers the first thing that comes to mind is, "Well no kidding! Instruments in 2002 are probably orders of magnitude more sensitive than they were 30 years ago!" Technological progress alone can easily explain these numbers. Now days we can detect even the tiniest earthquakes almost anywere, unlike in the 40 years ago.
I checked wikipedia as i typed this, and yep, here is a quote confirming my thoughts exactly;
"The number of seismic stations has increased from about 350 in 1931 to many thousands today. As a result, many more earthquakes are reported than in the past, but this is because of the vast improvement in instrumentation, rather than an increase in the number of earthquakes."

ce
If the author of the web site you quote has done so little research, you can barely take anything he or she writes as credible.

The site also lists 6 earthquakes over a magnitude of 7.0 that occurred in 2002, but the average number of earthquakes per year in the 1900s over 7.0 is 18. So by the figures he is going by, the author should state that earthquakes are decreasing! How ever this line of thinking just shows a lack of understanding of probability.
If the yearly average is as low as 18, then the law of large numbers indicates that the standard deviation will be large enough to affect the number of earthquakes on a yearly basis enough that some years there will be several more than 18 and some years several less. In other wards if one year there are only 10 and some years later there are 24, its still normal.
More over, one must consider geography and probability of the location of earthquakes. The location of 90% of the worlds earthquakes occurs along the ring of fire. However a lot of the ring of fire is not near large cities susceptible to widespread damage. Most of it is in the middle of nowhere. some years large earthquakes will occur close to high population areas, and other years most of the earthquakes will occur too far to cause any harm. on the years that several earthquakes happen to occur near populated areas, it might seem like earthquakes are increasing, but its just probability. This also would be normal.

fantastic. i would be very happy if science could disprove this theory. but we're still looking at probability.

Finger Fitness. What is it?

AnomalousDatum says...

I just spent 10 minutes doing his exercises (from his book) then did an advanced 600 word typing speed test. Well, I set a new personal best at 69 wpm from 65 on this particular test typing cold, and I haven't tried it for the better part of a year. More importantly however, my left hand usually aches after typing strenuously, but doesn't now. I broke my wrist and ulna in a few places in high school and lost some range of motion and complex tasks usually causes it to ache. Looks like I'm doing these exercises every day.

This is anecdotal, I can't really tell if it was the warm up exercises that had the majority effect or not. The book basically just has pictures of hand positions and basically says, do this. Meh, I'm sure if I practice this it would increase finger independence. I can't do all of the exercises without my left hand hurting, but we'll see. I subjectively feel like I have quicker, freer finger movement at least. And generally if you think you can do something better, you can for as long as you think it. Yay for placebo.
