Half-Life 1 - First Trailer Rough Cut (Pre Release)
Indeed. I had forgotten it was based of the original quake engine, this video really shows it in the way it tilts when you strafe...
... as for the DNF comment, it really amazes me that HL1, HL2 and Episodes 1 and 2 all came out within the dev time for an unfinished DNF...
Awesome Left 4 Dead 2 trailer
Are you fucking serious?
What happened to HL2 Episode 3?
Left 4 Dead 2 Teaser Trailer (E3 2009)
Looks great but has L4D run its course just yet?
Why isn't work being done on the next HL2 episode instead?
Zero Punctuation Review: Duke Nukem Forever
Dude. So many people thought Valve was doing the same thing with HL2 and TF2. Are those still vaporware? HELLZ NO! They delivered higher than anyone's (realistic) expectations!
Robot Sheep Shearing.
Just got a mental image of all the queued-up sheep waiting to get shorn... Lined up on rails like the combine prisoners in HL2.
And when will my ChickieNobs get here?
TF2 Sandvich Fakeout
TF2 is not "episodic" by any definition. "Episodic" means a story is told through a serialized narrative. Adding a character class is just an upgrade/DLC, not an episode.
Yeah HL2 is getting a bit silly, since it looks pretty certain there will be more than two years between Episode 2 and Episode 3. On the other hand, the games are so good when they come out, I'm happy to let Valve take their time. I've never enjoyed a single player game so much as HL2 and the HL2 episodes.
Explorations Into The Uncanny Valley
Video game characters are much less likely to wrap their hands around your neck.
I think a game life HL2 has great characters period. Good voice acting, good textures, good modeling and a good voice movements. This all works together as sitting in the middle of the graph I think. Nothing is perfect and tooooo real that it's bizzare. Or nothing is really off that screams "FREAK !!!!!!" Also I think because its a game, we know automatically its not real. I've never been creeped out by a video game character in the way a mannequin standing there lifeless can make me think awful thoughts.
Amazing Half-Life 2 Inspired Viral Campaign
The guy who made the effects (Tim Smit) was just on a Dutch talk show. He's a physics student with a passion for film, and this is sort of an experimental video to see what he could do. It is a concept for a longer movie, hence the poster and the website etc. It was made on a 150€ budget, 3 days of location shooting, and from what I understood, a few months of tinkering with special effects. He's been studying and replicating visual effects as a hobby for years.
The link with the game wasn't really explored (presumably because the talkshow host didn't know), but he did briefly mention that the sound effects (and thus, probably the whole HL2 inspired setting) were 'off-the-shelf', and that he would do all that differently if he ever had a chance to make the 90-minute movie version.
Amazing Half-Life 2 Inspired Viral Campaign
DEFINETLY fan created, alternativly cleverly disguised viral marketing (for what?). Nothing in there that would cost alot of money, only skillfull use of effects. The props used in the other HL2 fan movie had alot higher quality, although this one had alot less crappy acting which is good.
Amazing Half-Life 2 Inspired Viral Campaign
I'm sure Valve had something to do with this.....maybe? If it's fan created, then HOLY SHIT! It took some $ or some major time. Awesome video, wish the guy would have fought back like I do in HL2.
domino fun in the hl2 engine

Escape From City 17 Part One
>> ^budzos:
Have you played HL2: Episode 2? I'm not sure that would be inconsistent with the logic of the HL2 universe. It would have to be done subtly and carefully, but that's not beyond the G-Man's ken.
That said, they won't do it. Besides the problem of converting any video game to Hollywood, Valve has made it explicit that any (male) player is supposed to be able to project himself on Gordon with minimal difficulties. Valve has explicitly said that this is why you can't see your feet and why there are no mirrors in City 17. For similar reasons, you only see the heroine of Portal briefly and in profile.
Escape From City 17 Part One
I would think the best HL/HL2 movie would not be centered on Freeman at all. Much like Opposing Force and Blue Shift centered on background characters, having the movie tell a different story of the same world would work. JJ Abrahms or Joss Whedon please.
Wii Fit Parody
^ That's like saying that cartoons are destroying the movie industry.
Graphics are no substitution for fun. Honestly the game I still play the most is UT2k4, because I find it fun. UT3 is pretty, but boring. Portal was awesome, and the HL2 series is pretty good too, but otherwise I haven't found anything new on PC that is actually "fun" in a while.
If people want to play simple games to pass the time then I have no problem with that. If anything I'd say the "graphics engine with crappy content" games are worse for the industry.
Black Mesa Source Trailer
Looks great. They should release this in episodic format, rather than trying to do the whole game at once.
Oh well, still looking forward to it. I just want to know, whose going to make HL2 for the HL3 engine? NOT.
