Man confronts Superintendent about Bullying in Katy ISD publ

ChaosEngine says...

I had a pretty rough time in school. Plenty of people I would happily never see or speak to again.

But I don't think you should hold someone to account for dumb shit they did as a kid. Christ knows I did enough stupid shit in my youth. That doesn't mean you have to support them or even forgive them (at least not unless they make some effort to earn it), but I fail to see the point of dragging this up at a public meeting.

All that said, the superintendent's reaction is terrible here. If I was in the speakers position, having had the bravery to come forward and recount that experience, if my ex-bully had dismissed me like that, I'd have a very hard time not punching the motherfucker right there.

All he had to do was admit he was a stupid kid and apologise with a modicum of grace and humility. As it stands, I hope he loses his job because he's clearly a) an asshole and b) unfit.

Man confronts Superintendent about Bullying in Katy ISD publ

newtboy says...

Clearly the principal was wrong, he didn't grow up, he's still not a grown man. Grown men don't laugh about having been disgustingly abusive children, especially when it's actually their job to stop abuses.
Maybe the next kid will put the .45 in the bully's mouth before their own. What is there to lose when you've been abused to the point of suicide?

The Robot Uprising Will Be Justified

Dad, we've been through this

newtboy says...

No.
When friends and family do something wrong, they're still wrong, and I tell them.

And you fucked up your non quote...all police are suspect to me and must prove their honesty and responsibility. This one proved his irresponsibility and demonstrated that his department doesn't need more officers or funding.

Cops are liars, murderers, and bullies....and I suppose some of them are good people...but not the ones who stand with the liars and murderers. ;-)

And yet if it was your (or your friend's) dad would you have thought that was pretty cool?

When the average cop lightens up on the public, I will lighten up on them...but not before.
I grew up having total respect for police, their repeated actions have caused me to reconsider that.
I do not respect liars or bullies, and I've never once met a cop that wasn't one or the other if not both.
If I leave my civil service job once a week or more to play around with my kids, using departmental equipment and authority, while complaining I need more assistance and overtime to complete my duties, I should be fired for dereliction, imo.
Cops have squandered their benefit of a doubt and public good will, they have to earn it back, not just demand it. It's the pessimism of reality that jaded me, personal experiences, not just internet reports of bad behavior.

Wow, lighten up guys.
They are having fun, and enjoying some positive energy.
Something we can all use more of.
If anything, this helps show the human side of police officers, helping to bridge the gap between authority and the people it serves.

You don't always need to find the negative - don't let the pessimism of the internet jade you.

Reps. Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz on FISA abuses

newtboy says...

Trump will veto that, hide and watch....but I hope not so you can see that this memo is nothing but republicans making accusations, not evidence, just inferences drawn from implications based on not reading reports. The classified report they claim to reference isn't being released, just the partisan Republican memo...while the Democrat version of that interpretation memo was kept classified.

Funny, Trump's people claimed McCabe stepped down of his own accord, a few months before his scheduled retirement. He's not fired, he didn't quit, he wasn't even asked to leave, much less forced out. He just switched positions...ostensibly to avoid any further contact with Trump who acts like a bully on the phone, taunting the man's wife then hanging up.

Only one falling here. This should cause even republicans to vote to protect Mueller from removal. That will be Trump's death nail.

bobknight33 said:

The vote to release it passed. Its coming out.

FBI Director Christopher Wray reads the memo Sunday and Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe ask not to come back to work..Memo is coming out .

McCabe did NOT step down voluntarily, he was REMOVED!

This is only the beginning.

Not Bullshit .

Scandal at highest level.
Many more to fall.

Justice takes time.

John Cleese On Trump's Base

Trump IS doing a great job....for other Trumps and our enemies, but not America.

The Truth About Jerusalem

newtboy says...

Imo, the peace process isn't dead, but it's deathly ill because Israel keeps expanding.

Want and can accept are two different things.

We give them most of that military might, and back it with ours. Without that interference, they might be more fair and equitable, with it they clearly won't, they'll continue to bully their weaker, poorer, displaced neighbors.

Popular opinion in Israel seems to be the Palestinians should be eradicated, so fair, equitable, compassionate treatment is incredibly unlikely and not realistic without being forced into it.

bcglorf said:

Trump's a buffoon randomly dancing around from one tire fire to set off another. This is no defence of him or any 'thought', motive or goal behind anything he does.

I'm just pointing out that the world's reaction of horror and outrage to moving the US embassy to Jerusalem is naive and hypocritical. It is naive in that clearly the peace process has been dead since WW2.

I'm going to list points that seem to clearly indicate the peace process didn't exist and tell me anything you disagree with cause I suspect we are working from different 'facts'.

Israel clearly doesn't want a two state solution.
Hamas clearly doesn't want a two state solution.
Fatah clearly doesn't want a two state solution.
The Muslim world clearly doesn't want to share Jerusalem with an Israeli state.
The Israeli state clearly doesn't want to share Jerusalem with a Palestinian state.

With the above, and Israeli's militarily dominant position over the Palestinians the only 'peace' process is going to be whatever Israel decides it wants that to be. Morality, wishes, blundering American 'presidents' and anything else we want to pull out doesn't really matter in the face of that. Israel has the might and the ability and so they will do what they want. My hope is to influence the Israeli state towards equitable, fair and compassionate treatment of Palestinians. If Israel decides to create a one state solution, but abides by that fine. Two states with borders unilaterally laid out by Israel, fine. So long as popular opinion in Israel can be won in favour of fair, equitable and compassionate treatment of Palestinians then that's the most I hope or wish for. I think it's a realistic goal that can be realized.

How the Alt-Right Trolls

suzannegascoyne says...

It's all so tricky. Don't answer and it looks like you're avoiding, do answer and you play into their set-up, request reasoning or evidence for their position, and oftentimes they will cite false information that is difficult to let stand without addressing with accurate facts. Definitely formidable to deal with conservative trolls--just like a playground bully that they are.

How South Park Gets Trump Right – Wisecrack

I'm waiting for them to point out that Heidi, the only Cartman supporter, is really the biggest snowflake on the show (besides Cartman). She's with Cartman because they both left social media because of bullying and ugliness (well, ok, Cartman was thrown off because of his ugliness, but still).

If you could kill with impunity, would you?

MilkmanDan says...

Weird. I get the sense that from the perspective of the author of the question, he's taking the specifics too literally; sort of the opposite of how people try to weasel out of introspection when confronted with things like the trolley problem ("I'd pull the lever, AND shout as loud as I could to try to warn the guy", etc.).

To me, the idea is not to be worried about things like accidental use of the power, whether or not you know/believe that you have the power, etc. Assume that you have the power, you are aware that you have it, and that there is no risk of accidentally triggering it. Would you use it?

I can say with near certainty that I would have used it when I was younger; faced with situations like the experience he had with the bully when he was 13. I might have given it up after a single use, when firsthand confronted with the reality of it. Or I might easily have descended into the depths of utter evil, and eventually started using it casually, for offenses real or imagined.

If I got the power NOW, I think it is fairly likely that I would never use it. I'd be strongly tempted, though.

Not a baby brother!

oblio70 says...

HAhahaha! With 6 & 11 years on me and the household rule of "Boys NEVER NEVER NEVER bully girls" (note how this was not reciprocal) I would have more appreciated Brother-nemeses over my own experiences...

and I was the one easily bribed, thus I was the only one to get snitched on, keeping them smelling pretty. (Suprise! This dynamic never ended...never changed, but I don't bribed anymore).

Gaslighting: Abuse That Makes You Question Reality

TheFreak says...

Are you for real?

Do you not see that you are literally gaslighting by attempting to paint an individual, who organized a stunt aimed at intimidating another person in public, as the victim of the incident?

I don't even give a shit about gamergate or the feminism/anti-feminism celebrity battle that you, clearly, have taken a side on. I don't support anyone involved because all of the participants appear to be acting like asshats. But any objective viewer can see that one side made a bold move to aggressively provoke an opponent and succeeded in their goal of getting a response. It was bullying and abusive and it illicited an undignified response.

Let me reiterate, I am not your opposition in your crazy war. But I have to point out that it is a perplexing bit of mental acrobatics for you to attempt to perpetuate a false reality by accusing an intended victim of trying to perpetuate a false reality.

That's a clown move and if you had any integrity you would pause a moment for a little self examination.

Asmo said:

"resist any challenges to their world view that might make them feel uncomfortable"

What, like letting an abusive presenter at Vidcon off the hook and pillorying people she abused? Then saying that it wasn't exactly what it looked like in all the video footage, it was something else.
