Watch Elon Musk's Rocket Explode After Launch

Harzzach says...

The damage was so massive that they have to rebuild entire portions of the Texas Launch Site. It's quite possible that the immediate failure of several engines on one side was caused by debris from the launch pad.

How build launch durable pads, especially when using powerful engines, isnt something we have to learn first by making mistakes. This is basic engineering 101 at NASA.

While i still cant get enough from vertically landing rocket stages and i deeply respect the work of Space-X engineers ... this ongoing, absolute reckless launch safety strategy (or should i say the lack of) does not bode well for manned missions.

The launch pad and surrounding area was a mess with debris and a car was damaged some distance away from the launch pad.

#MAGACHALLENGE TRUMP SUPPORTERS

newtboy says...

He stupidly admitted there was a stenographer on the phone call, so unless they destroy it, there is a word for word transcript of the entire call that's already been subpoenaed, including the missing majority of the call not included in the summary they produced.

Also we now have confirmation of the quid quo pro in the form of emails directing the ambassador to set up a face to face meeting only if the Ukrainian president agrees to publicly investigate Biden.

Also, today Rick Perry resigned and declared his intention to cooperate fully with the investigation. That does not bode well for Trump.

Sadly, since the Senate majority doesn't care about the law or country, only protecting themselves from Trump's wrath and his terroristic followers, there's not a chance he will be removed, but not a chance he won't be exposed as a treasonous traitor either.

BSR said:

I believe his phone call WAS perfect. Best thing he's done so far!

Last nail in the coffin so to speak.

Redacted Tonight: NY Primary Wasn't Legit (Clinton VS Sander

newtboy says...

You're likely correct, that's what they're thinking.
Unfortunately, while the first assumption is probably correct if young voters can't vote for Sanders, she is likely incorrect on the second point. She's not taking into account her own unlikeability rating, which rivals Trump's. People won't come out in large numbers to vote against Trump if they don't think she's a better alternative, and every time her campaign or the DNC does something underhanded she gets a little closer to tying with him for people's hatred and distain.
She also ignores or underestimates how much the Republicans hate her...it's enough to get them to come out and vote for Trump, even though they don't like him at all, just to spite her. Remember, the Republicans are fine being driven by hate and spite, Democrats and Independents at least like to pretend they aren't. That does not bode well for November.

Mordhaus said:

I think she is just arrogantly assuming that either:

A. Most young voters don't usually end up voting (one wonders why with this type of thing demoralizing them)

B. People will hate Trump enough to overcome their hatred of her.

Clinton Campaign Orders Clark County Chairperson Removal

newtboy says...

*promote again, because attempts to change election rules after the vote and bully election officials is an important story for the entire planet, since it might end up deciding who's our president. Trying to remove the HEAD/CHAIR of the credentials committee based on instructions from one candidate's lawyer? That's election tampering plain and simple.
It's also important because it exemplifies how totally screwed up our election processes are. There's no legitimate reason for it to be so convoluted and easily tampered with. This and other stories do not bode well for November. It's like they're prepping us to not be surprised when every state has 'irregularities' that leave us all wondering who was really elected, and who was just handed the election.

More follow up.

secular talk-the invisible hand of the market is a myth

RedSky says...

There is a demonstrated bias towards equity investment domestically which is probably what Adam Smith was talking about, which is rather different to tax havens and global supply chains which would not have been as feasible back in the 18th century.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_bias_puzzle

Chomsky is also not really correct as Adam Smith does use it in the more general sense that it is referred to today in The Theory of Moral Sentiments. That it took me a couple of minutes to contradict this video with wikipedia does not bode well for the fact checking of TYT.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible_hand#Other_uses_of_the_phrase_by_Smith

I think it's also worth pointing out that Smith's position wasn't that of unrestrained market activity. The general principle of the invisible hand is sound if you accept that point. As far as his actual position on the role of government, it's open to interpretation. It's also worth pointing out that you can't expect a concept to not need some adjustment after 250 years.

Sarah help me!

AeroMechanical says...

Have mercy. I don't think he's just yucking it up for the camera. I hope Sara isn't his girlfriend. If she is, and she doesn't dump him for such an inglorious display of pansyhood, he should marry her immediately because she must really appreciate whatever his other qualities are. Wailing and falling to pieces over a minor problem such as this doesn't bode well for the future.

Unless, of course, he has some phobia of water or something, in which case I take it back. He did well to be out there to begin with.

Kayakers Have Up-Close Encounter with a Deer

Why Does My Body Do That? 2

Sniper007 says...

Wow, that first one was so far off the mark, it's laughable.

When you hair stands up on end, it is sticking out further from your boding, giving you a slightly greater lead time for anything brushing up against you. It also gives you greater sensitivity to physical stimuli that may brush near your body. It makes you more sensative to small air currents as well that are flowing over your skin.

All things things help in survival, fight or flight type situations.

Lawrence O'Donnell - What Constitution says about treason

Ralgha says...

I never claimed he was wrong on all of his other points. I only claimed that his credibility was ruined by making much the same kind of error as the one he's ranting against. Attempting to prove his point about the meaning of "treason" by twisting the meaning of "traitor" to suit his argument does not bode well for his credibility. It calls into question the integrity of his entire message.

L0cky said:

You're comparing logic to semantics.

Also being wrong on one point doesn't automatically make you wrong on all others, unless they are built upon that point as an axiom. In this case, none of them were.

The Incoherence of Atheism (Ravi Zacharias)

shinyblurry says...

I wouldn't say anything, I don't think that it would be particularly effective. We all have our own idea of what morality is, and Stalin's is a very complex result of innumerable factors like upbringing, disposition and circumstance, and it would be a bit self important of me to think that I could argue that out of him. He lived, acted, died and left his mark on history. The paremeters set forth by the physical world and the collective actions of everyone else who has lived either as a contemporary or since has judged which of those actions have value and will live on. It's a messy process, certainly, but it's just how things work.

In other words, you don't have any argument as to why Stalin should adopt your morality and abandon his own. If you do I invite you to post it here. How can you escape Ravi's charge that atheism is incoherent in the absence of any such argument?

Thankfully, we seem to be heading in a direction that diverges considerably from that Stalin would espouse. I think that a certain evolutionary tendency towards beneficial collectivism is responsible for that.

Mind you that I'm not arguing for a one world government here, but rather I think that a sense of connection and personal responsibility for the wellbeing of everything else on this planet, ecosystem and all, will bode well for how I and my descendants experience this thing we call life.

It's only one of many competing survival strategies, and nothing more.

So if Hitler had won and the world was in the grips of his totalitarian regime, this would just a particular evolutionary tendency playing out? What makes one better than the other?

"Do you believe that there has ever been a case where slavery has been justified, and do you believe that there has ever been a good reason for anyone to butcher a toddler with a sword?"

Why is it wrong to do either of those things?

The Incoherence of Atheism (Ravi Zacharias)

shveddy says...

Wrong, my question is in no way off topic and implying otherwise may be easier for you, but it won't do much to convince anyone. We are discussing the incoherence of atheism relative to the superior coherence of Christianity as it pertains to systems of morality. Therefore any question regarding the efficacy of a Judeo-Christian theistic moral compass is entirely relevant.

So my question remains, but I'll answer yours because it too is relevant:

I wouldn't say anything, I don't think that it would be particularly effective. @shveddy First let me ask you a question, since we're discussing the incoherence of atheism: What argument would you give to Stalin as to why he should hold to your morality instead of his own?
