RON PAUL WINS STRAW POLL! So... Lets Talk About Herman Cain

Yogi says...

Before I clicked on it I thought that they were gonna talk about Ron Paul winning and THEN start talking about Herman Cain. I can't believe they could show that poll while immediately talking about the 2nd place winner, does this happen anywhere else in the world?!

Corporatist idiots.

Speaking of corporatists, why is it he seems to get left out of the debate when the corporate media covers the primaries? Obama gets plenty of attention from the corporate media, and so do the neocons and dominionists from the GOP.

For example, this article just came out yesterday. Ron Paul polled in 2nd place, but the headline reads: "Poll: Romney leads New Hampshire, Huntsman in third, Perry in fourth". Looks like the big corporatists are afraid of Paul yet love them some Obama. They practically pitched Obama into the White House like a softball to the voter's.

DSOTM is basically 2 long songs, but I hear what you're saying. Also, I notice that if I listen to a Floyd album these days it tends to be Animals, WYWH, or Meddle before DSOTM. I might have played that one out too, but it's still absolutely fantastic. Off and on over the years I used to play "Echoes" at bedtime if I was having trouble falling asleep, so that might be the Floyd song I've heard the most. Now the only music accessible in my bedroom is a clock radio, so I haven't done that in awhile.

Wow. Switch that 2nd place tie with the first place pick and we're one in the same. Yea "Wish You Were Here" and "Animals" are, by far, their best albums. Of course Dark Side Of the Moon is in there too, but I think I've just been played out of that one. There's something about 10+ minute songs that take you on that journey.

I haven't heard anything after The Wall (except for Division Bell which BLOWS). Hard to believe they're the same band.

My favorite is Dark Side of the Moon, making me part of the herd, I suppose. Tied for second would be Wish You Were Here and Animals, followed by Meddle, then The Wall, and beyond that you probably don't care, though I'll tell you if you want to know. Least favorite would probably be More or Obscured By Clouds.

What's yours?

She is awesome with a double helping of awesome sauce

Performance by a supporting actress:
Doubt - Viola Davis
fantastic performance, 2nd place Marisa, but I can't imagine she would want to win another supporting actress oscar, as the last one nearly killed her career

Animated Feature of the Year:
WALL-E
Duh!?

Best Picture:
Slumdog Millionaire
Best Picture out of the 5 nominations, I will agree with others that TDK should have be nominated and I would have thrown my vote at it.

^Second place in a beauty contest? What a loser. At least we can all sleep well at night, knowing that 2nd place contestants in beauty pageants have absolutely NO CHANCE of finding themselves in a position where you could conceivably destroy the planet because choosing a magazine really frustrates you.

Now entertain us by playing the fucking flute already.

Ron Paul Once Again The Voice Of Reason. On The Economy

NetRunner says...

^ Easy to fix if more people paid attention. It's not as if they disinvited Paul from every debate (though they did once he flopped in the Iowa caucus).

I think Paul also failed to use his campaign funds properly. Did he hire a campaign strategist? Did he flood the airwaves in Iowa? Had he been making appearances there nonstop for the 6 months beforehand?

If he'd won the Iowa caucus, he'd have been taken seriously by the media -- no laughing him off would be possible then. Heck, even a 2nd place finish would've kept him in the media spotlight.

I think the traditional right-wing noise machine would've ripped him apart because he's not part of their pro-corporation, anti-citizen agenda, like they did with Huckabee and McCain. Doesn't seem to have worked on McCain, unfortunately.

I also think you're overestimating the Republican base's committment to real conservative philosophy. I think most of the base thinks it's all about babies, guns, and jesus, and talking in simple, absolute terms. Small government just means tax cuts -- domestic wiretapping is okay. Refusing to testify before Congress is a sign of strength, and they want a strong leader.

In short, I think there's a better case for the CFR theory if you follow the campaign of John Edwards, rather than Ron Paul.

He beat Hillary for 2nd spot in Iowa, but the media completely ignored him, and his numbers fell sharply after that.

Back to the economics, I'm in agreement with Paul about the need for the losers in charge of these companies, and their shareholders to pay a price for the failures they've wrought. I'm thinking he's painting too rosy a picture about what would happen if the companies outright failed, though. I'm pretty sure in the short term that would be seriously ugly, though in the long term (decade-scale) it'd probably make the recovery faster.

Question is, do you want a sharp, short downturn that makes people lose their homes, or a longer, wider one where people can keep them, but are just moderately worse off for a longer period of time?

There's probably more area under the 2nd curve, but isn't there a case to be made that it's better for people to have the shallower, broader downturn?
