Please, oh please, don't let your first interaction with the Sift define the experience for you. It is predominantly male here, which does affect some of its sensibility. There are some harsh male putdowns on occasion, and also plenty of male sanity and generosity and intelligence and regard.
And there are plenty of women here, too, and we hold our own.
Hopefully, you are just lurking (I lurked for years, myself) and you will try again some day.
