you may recognize this song from the movie "true romance"(the scene between walken and hopper) and while i am not an opera afficionado i cannot helped but be moved by this bitter-sweet french opera song.
here is the scene with walken and hopper in true romance:
http://www.videosift.com/video/True-Romance-Moor-Children the footage is from the 1981 movie "the hunger" tony scotts directorial debut (also directed true romance) starring susan sarandon, david bowie and cathryn deneuve.the story is a love triangle between a vampire couple (bowie and deneuve) and a doctor (susan sarandon).the songs elation to bittersweet sorrow is so fitting.for loves found and for loves sad goodbyes...
the burden of immortality and the breath of freshness, novelty and excitement .
i have been holding on to this video for quite awhile, unsure how it would be received, but it is far too beautiful, poignant and poetic to not share with you all.i play it every night...and just let my mind replay some of my fondest memories.i hope it has the same effect for you.
lyrics:
Sous le dôme épais, où le blanc jasmin
À la rose sassemble
Sur la rive en fleurs, riant au matin
Viens, descendons ensemble.
Doucement glissons de son flot charmant
Suivons le courant fuyant
Dans londe frémissante
Dune main nonchalante
Viens, gagnons le bord,
Où la source dort
Et loiseau, loiseau chante.
english:
"Under the thick dome, where the white jasmine
Gathers with the rose,
On the riverbank in bloom, laughing in the morning,
Come, let us go down together.
"Gently let us slip from the pleasant rising flow,
Let us follow the fleeting current
In the shimmering stream,
Without any care,
Come, let us reach the bank,
Where the spring waters slumber
And the bird, the bird, she sings."
