Why Heathrow Airport Had Empty Flights to Nowhere

Heathrow airport has a limited number of slots available each day for planes to take off and land. These slots are bought and owned by the airlines making them highly tradeable commodities and incredibly expensive. In order to keep these slots airliners sometimes have to run ghost flights.
