I've always hated this song... "We feel like we can't make a difference, so we're just gonna sit around and hope that everyone else changes". Seriously? How is that supposed to work? Is this supposed to be an anthem to incite people into activism or to incite people into waiting for help to come to you?

If the world isn't the way you like it, waiting around for it to change is the least useful means to changing it to be the way you want it to be. It's just gonna end up going someone else's direction because you didn't take control yourself.

... sorry for the rant. I hate this song.

I fucking hate this song also. Thought the same thing the first time I heard it playing through the PA in a department store. Which kinda makes sense...

What specifically are YOU doing, jrbedford and rosekat, to end the war, repair our economy being destroyed by business monoliths and upper echelon political conspiracies, end the cripling of our species of the mind controlling mental viruses of religions??? The song is easy-listening/pop music which is designed to piss you off, if you listen to it. What he says is annoying/uncomfortable because it's true.

Look, here I am spending time "socializing" with people I will never see in RL, I live in a society sufficiently disjointed that it is nearly infeasible to do any of the things which have historically lead to social change, mass boycotts, labor strikes, or small scale revolts are functionally impossible when the people discussing them are bound in insular virtual communities, and are scattered throughout the world.

I don't like that the song is true, but that does not make me not like the song.
