I always feel would be much more appropriate if these guys drove trucks/bombs/gunfire through buildings of government. I kind of think that's who they really want to get to anyhow. The US would get *more* accomplished if all of Congress were run over.

The draws back the curtain on the absurdity of security theatre. There is no way in hell that we would put up with the level of security required to ensure that something like this doesn't happen. All it took was a truck rental.
I suspect this attack will up the stakes more than many of the previous ones, because there will be no way to make people feel 'safe' from this kind of horror.

If you want to spread fear, you are unfortunately much more effective by striking at random civilians. If you kill a government official, they will be replaced. If you kill the nation's sense of trust and security, that's much harder to repair.
