The Arab Perspective On Critics of Islam and Arabs

Ahmad Bin Muhammad, Algerian Professor or Religous Politics asks the questions that no one asks about criticism against the Arab and Islamic world.

Oh, so it's more important to ask about Hitler and Hiroshima than why a young man suicide bombed a bus of civilians? And there's only a few dozen to a few thousand innocent non-Muslims while there's millions of innocent Muslims? And what's the deal with implying the West invented slavery a few centuries ago? Sorry, but slavery, like war, has been around for *all* of known history, no less in the Middle-East than anywhere else. I can also think of plenty of Middle-Eastern nations that used to be quite imperialistic. This guy's got a more western-centric view of history than me. This rant makes it sound like history started with European colonialism. Pretty damn short-sighted and narrow, if you ask me.

Let me simplify it. You have two options for judging innocence: personal or historical/communal. If we go with the latter, then there are no innocents, not even children for all of us have evil in our ancestry. If we go with the former, then we cannot make such gross generalizations and should certainly not go around blowing strangers up, whether suicide bombing or nuking.

Or better yet, let's not try to judge innocence or who-is-worse until we become omniscient. Let mercy and forgiveness rule. The freedom to forgive is the most powerful of all, and it is untouchable. We always have that choice.

This came off as being more propaganda than anything else. Instead of properly addressing the situation, it was more akin to: "Why do we blow up a bus? Well, what about Hiroshima? Huh? Huh? And what about this or that? Huh? Huh?" Only one example is needed to show hypocrisy, not 10.

(And bothall cultures are guilty of it, mind you.)

He's right; questions should be asked about GWB, Hitler, slavery, etc. But none of that invalidates the suicide bomber question. Ask all the other questions if you wish, but answer this one you've been asked while you're at it.

This is the answer that never gets added to this segment of Wafa Sultan speaking out.

I wonder how many people in the Islamic-centric part of the world share her point of view. I would hope more rather than less. Unfortunately it seems that her perspective may not be given as much credence because she is "a secularist" or when seen through the eyes of the host, "a heretic". Which really makes her points seem valid, that this is an issue of backwardness - in that multi-culturalism and religious diversity aren't supported.

Not a lot of people (even Muslims) seem to remember that they once conquered almost the entirety of Europe. So it seems like we all get our chance.

I am surprised too that people often overlook reason for personal motivations of revenge, etc. It's all fine and good to say that forgiveness is divine and I believe that that is what it takes to overcome our waring past. But what happens when one of your family members gets killed? We don't always react like freaking Ghandi.
