Tamasaburo "Sagi Musume" Japanese Kabuki Introduction

Tamasaburo performed his signature dance "Sagi Musume (Heron Maiden)" at the Kabuki-za, Tokyo. This is the first part of the dance. Here, on the stage, Tamasaburo morphed from a heron to a machi musume (town girl) by means of a quick change of costumes.

I found this to be a fascinating introduction to Kabuki which is a form of traditional Japanese theater. Kabuki theater is known for the stylization of its drama and for the elaborate make-up worn by its performers. More info about it is available at Wikipedia.
