Ruins of Babylon damaged by military base

For some reason the coalition forces decided to build a military base right on top of ancient Babylon in Iraq. This has greatly damaged the arcaeological site.

Please disregard the web address at the end. It just leads to some wacky New Age website. The clip itself is made by National Geographic, and is just uploaded to Youtube by these New Age people.

I recall my utter disbelief when I read and saw pictures of the looting that had taken place after 'the fall of Baghdad.' Troops and tanks had been stationed around major oil fields, but the archaeological museums were left unprotected, to be destroyed and ransacked. A few soldiers likely could have staved off the majority of these unarmed opportunistic mobs. Shit like this can't be fixed or replaced; you go into another country in the name of its future, but fail to protect its past. Disgusting.

Luckily I'm a proud Canadian. You folks will never know the complete joy and relief that we as a country felt that morning in the end of March 2003, when the headlines read 'Canada says No to War in Iraq.' Our prime minister at the time Jean Chrétien gets HUGE respect for not supporting the invasion. Our current prime minister Steven harper, on the other hand, sent a letter to the Wall Street Journal, expressing condemnation of the government for not blindly standing with its allies. What a dick.
