This rocket launch in rural Thailand didn't go according to plan – the device ended up billowing bursts of flame and smoke, facedown on the ground.

The launch was part of a traditional festival in the northeastern Yasothon province. It takes place every year. People fire homemade rockets into the air.

This device was stuffed full of gun powder and lit, and briefly started spinning before smoke engulfed its owners and it dropped to the ground.

The rocket's builder, Kitti Pasuk, said: ''It took a long time to prepare the rocket. I'm so disappointed. I'll repair it and try again next time.''
