Olbermann: The President owes this country an apology.

Fletchsays...

I'm a bleeding-heart liberal, and I'm an Olberman fan, but what he took out of context (repeated at 3:58 or so) and used as his base for the second half of his rant left me feeling a little icky, like I was watching someone who's opinion I respect play the same game I abhor when I see the talking heads on Fox doing it. While I agreed with pretty much everything he said, I think he tried to sell it by using a statement taken out of context. Bush definitely has problems speaking smoothly and eloquently, but even a Bush-hating, tree-hugger like me can see that he didn't mean what Olberman said he meant when he said "It's unacceptable to think". Kinda pissed me off, actually.

Oh yeah....

Arrr!

I feel the same way about the jesus camp version that farhad posted yesterday. Although I agree how dangerous it was, the news show was obviously selling the story w/ the bush worshiping standee. Made me feel weird.

Everyone follows the standard developed by Fox News, develop stories in sensationalized manner. However Olberman, I feel like he's trying to hard to be the next Edward R. Murrow. He delivers good points, but it's delivered in such an aggressive manner that it just leaves an acid taste.

I hate all journalists. It's no longer about reporting an unbiased account, it's about sensationalism.

It reminds me of the film, "Network." Every journalist should be required to watch it.

The jesus camp thing....

I actually saw therealblankman's post of the movie preview before I saw the ABC news story posted by farhad. It was so scary, sad, and disgusting all by itself that I didn't really notice the ABC commentary during their story. But, as I go back and watch it again... yeah, definitely sensationalizing it (although they didn't need to). I try to be a critical viewer and reader, but I didn't even notice it the first time I saw it. It's just feels offensive to me to be played like that, and I just turn off when I see it. Kind of like when I watch Nancy Grace for more than a minute or so. Pisses me off.

daphne,

You would have dug the opening scene on the premier of "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" last night. I think it's going to be a good show. Even had some "Network" references.

Arrr!
