Obama on criteria for picking a running mate: "I want somebody who is independent. Somebody who is able to say to me, 'you know what, Mr. President, I think you're wrong on this and here's why' and will give me (applause) who will help me think through major issues and consult with me, would be a key advisor."

It doesn't seem like an intuitive choice on the surface, but Obama plays a few steps ahead of the game, so it will be interesting to see where he is going with this.

I think he's basically trying to pad lacking expertise in foreign policy with this choice. But it just seems counter intuitive given his campaign message.

The more I see of this campaign the more my support for Obama wains, I just don't expect as much from him now.
