Nintendo almost sold NES to Atari in 1983

Not sell the whole company, but the rights to sell/distribute/market the 8-bit Famicom everywhere but Japan. A contract was negotiated, and almost signed. It's unclear whether Atari was serious, or just using the negotiations to slow down Nintendo's entry to market. Console history could have been very different.
