NY Times Profile: ‘Why I Joined the Tea Party’

From the NY Times article:

"Mr. Grimes, who receives Social Security, has filled the back seat of his Mercury Grand Marquis with the literature of the movement, including Glenn Beck’s “Arguing With Idiots” and Frederic Bastiat’s “The Law,” which denounces public benefits as “false philanthropy.”

“If you quit giving people that stuff, they would figure out how to do it on their own,” Mr. Grimes said. "

"I don't pay attention." That just about sums up much of the Tea Party Movement - well meaning but grossly misinformed people who swallow whole Fox News and Rush sensationalism without ever paying attention to legitimate journalistic sources.

It's sad to see her and her husband sinking their limited resources in to what ultimately boils down to a flim-flam political movement based largely on lies or misinformation. If she actually keeps this up until she exhausts her savings, lets hope she hasn't succeeded in dismantling the social safety nets she is working so hard to "reform."

Why are all the tea partiers on some form of social assistance? I thought they were anti government!

Cut wasteful federal spending! (ahem except for the bits that go into my pockets, just cut the money that goes to coloured folks)

It's terrible that Sen. Obama is on the road all the time campaigning but... It's okay for the white guy? Because? Man what idiots.

At least I can console myself in the fact that the way these guys think about their personal economics they'll soon be out on the street and more concerned about where their next meal is coming from than repeating lies that they take on faith as gospel.

Yeah, I hear that a lot. But you see, they were forced to pay into social security and medicare they have a right to get their money back. It's their money. I'm sure they'd prefer to have saved and invested the money themselves instead.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the teabaggers - racist morons. I just don't care for intellectual dishonesty either.
