Kimbo Slice TKO'd in 14 Seconds

A Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock fight was signed for October 4, 2008 to take place at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida as part of CBS' "Saturday Night Fights". Seth Petruzelli replaced Shamrock due to a cut to the left eye during warm ups only hours before the fight was to take place. Petruzelli defeated Slice by TKO 14 seconds into the bout.

For the record, I don't follow/care/pay attention to any of the fighting-related sports. But this was a massively hyped event (as was Kimbo Slice), and the significance of this is that Kimbo is either grossly overrated or this no-name Seth Petruzelli is vastly underrated. Possibly both. Either way... pathetic.

or Kimbo's luck ran out and now the dude with the hair disaster is overrated.

upvote for the commentator saying "beeeeaauuuutiful" while he watches two sweaty men fight on the floor.

I was very surprised when they decided to have Seth fight Kimbo. He may not be well known, but he's a competent fighter with a couple decent wins (but little recognition). Exactly the kind of guy they should have kept Kimbo away from.

I wouldn't say Kimbo is overrated really, though - and least not by anyone who follows the sport. He's never been anything more than a promising beginner, and the poor performance against Thompson pretty much dashed any lingering thoughts about his potential.

If I was EliteXC, I'd see if I could schedule a fight with Tank Abbott. Meanwhile, I'd schedule another fight between some legitimate HWs, and have a championship fight.

Anybody who understands mma knows that any one fighter, regardless of how good he is, can be taken down with a stray punch. It only takes one hit to jostle your brain.

I'm not a Kimbo fan but Petruzelli was obviously scared. It wasn't his skill that won him the fight. It was luck.

I just happened upon this on CBS Saturday night and I watched this having never watching this extreme fighting before. I actually found it quite interesting, and I was quite surprised when the obviously bigger and more confident Kimbo went down and Petruzelli just kept pounding on him.

If Kimbo couldn't last more than 14 seconds in the cage with an ex UFC fighter imagine how bad he would suck in the UFC. That's why he's in EliteXC. He's a joke, he only got the record 3-0 before that fight from fighting washed up old guys.

In all fairness, these are probably the worst announcers in any English-speaking MMA promotion. Since EXC and Affliction closed shop, at least one of these tools (the guy who mentions Hulk Hogan around 5:50) is now announcing for Strikeforce. He says incredibly stupid things one right after another, though he's overshadowed here by that other screaming moron.

"Kimbo has no slice, no answer!"
I hate MMA. I think it might be because of the announcers.
