A great place to visit in Japan is Nara Park. While some deer will bow to you like this one, others are total assholes. They know there's food (deer crackers) and they know when you have it. And when you have it they may chase you and/or headbutt you to get it.
There are warning signs posted because of this behavior. If you're holding a map out and not paying attention, deer will come up to you and snatch it away from you and eat it. I've seen this happen at least twice. Apparently the proper response is to wrestle what's left of your map back from the deer and bop it on the head with it like a rolled up magazine.
Fun place, though. would definitely go back.
This is pretty neat. The deer have actually learned to bow in order to get treats from tourists. Now I know that not just the people in Japan are unfailingly polite. She almost got antlered that second time. Some of them are super polite and bow, other ones bite you until you drop all your crackers and run away. That deer is so fat
