Questionable McCain associations: Jim Hensley, Charles Keating, and Gordon Libby. Each more closely tied to McCain than Ayers is to Obama.

You can read the New York Times article that she references here, http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/04/us/politics/04ayers.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1&sq=Obama%20Terrorist&st=cse&scp=2 - Its a decent article that portrays their relationship as little more than a circumstantial run in while heading up an education board. Not "palling around."

But weren't they lying when they thought they were winning, too?

It seems clear to me that even the folks at this rally knew this was a bunch of hogwash. Pretty desultory response she got.
