Artists Marina Abramovic and Ulay started an intense love affair in the 70s, performing out of a van they called home. When they ended their relationship, they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last embrace in the middle. That was the last time they saw each other, until 2010 when Ulay arrived unannounced at the opening night of Marina's performance piece "The Artist Is Present".
This song is about that moment.
YouTube Description:
“I was fortunate enough to wander into the MoMA just in time for "The Artist Is Present". Equal parts unsettling, absurd, and profound; I couldn't shake the experience. Later, I stumbled onto the video wherein Ulay and Marina reunite and was overwhelmed with only one sentiment: this is a song.”
- Jon Burr
Not long after this sentiment was realized, was it brought to life in the form of “Ulay, Oh” - the second single off their forthcoming EP Adonis - recorded with attention and affection under the aegis of their label Decibel Collective Records - available to non-discerning consumers on November the 4th.
