A 1994 documentary film directed by Steve James. It follows the story of two African-American high school students in Chicago and their dream of becoming professional basketball players. The film follows William Gates and Arthur Agee, two African-American teenagers who are recruited by St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois, a predominantly white high school with an outstanding basketball program. Taking 90-minute commutes to school, enduring long and difficult workouts and practices, and acclimating to a foreign social environment, Gates and Agee struggle to improve their athletic skills in a job market with heavy competition.
The film was on more critics' top ten lists than any other film that year, including Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, Heavenly Creatures and Quiz Show.

oxdottirsays...I loved this film when I first saw it, which was here. I'm always torn when I see a resubmission like this when I can't find the original. I know it probably makes sense to just vote for it, but the fact that it was here and left always leaves me a little limp in the mouse button finger.
rasch187says...^ there are no videos with the title or tag "hoop dreams" in the sifted/unsifted/pqueued/dead/discarded/killed category. If this was posted before they sure made a good job of making sure no one could find it. Nevertheless, it's a fantastic documentary.
siftbotsays...Moving this video to rasch187's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.
