Googoosh - 'Goleh Bigoldoon' - pre-revolution Iranian soul

Googoosh is an Iranian Azerbaijani singer - she sings in both Persian and Azerbaijani. Unlike many singers, she stayed in Iran after the Islamic revolution, and from 1979 to 2000 effectively put her music career on hold in order to express solidarity with her own people. Her silence contributed to her enduring popularity during this time. Along with singing, she has also acted in several Persian films of the 1960s and 1970s; however, her work as an actress has always been eclipsed by her popularity as a singer. Known for her pulchritude and depth of her songs, she attained the status of a celebrity larger than life. Beside Iran, she still has a wide following in many Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries.
