How come? I thought it was the only part that wasn't very stupid. My first language is written almost perfectly phonetically and I like it. The idea of a Spelling Bee here would be ridiculous since even small children can hear how to spell the words.

I guess it would be impossible to change the spelling of English words anymore, but I don't think the idea is stupid...

Why is it "retarded" to poke fun of something that doesn't make sense? English is not my first language, and I did ask my teacher about why "Do" sounds like "Doo" and "Go" sounds like "Go", and why "Doe" sounds like what "Do" supposed to do and "Go" is not spelt like "Goe". Until now no one could give me a clear answer.
