I do something like this. I don't forgive assholes. I strive to accept them. Acceptance not forgiveness. "We are all doing the best we can in every single moment. Our best may stink, but it is the best we can do." And if someone is consistently an "asshole", I am free to not be around them. Not a doormat. Nope.
