Even statues die (Chris Marker, Alain Resnais)

In this 1953 documentary, commissioned by Présence Africaine, Chris Marker and Alain Resnais explore the merits of African art, especially sculpture, as compared to the classical works so revered in the Western world. After its release, the film was banned in France for 8 years.

The controversy may seem quaint now, but there are some stunning works depicted here.

Duration: Approx. 28 minutes.

Love Marker. Had not seen this one before, THANKS!

Though my French is pretty poor, it kind of reminds me of the sequence from Jules et Jim about statues. One that looks like Jeanne Moreau? I VAGUELY remember something like that.
