Energy-saving light bulbs, how safe are they?

Yucky lights. I like these. They last a really long time, because modern bulbs are made to burn out in a most disgusting display of planned obsolescence. The world's oldest bulb is one of these. Maybe they're not the most efficient, but don't just leave them on.
