Woah, how did I miss that?

Had a friend from a pub I used to go to. He was on one of those battleships. Said he never saw a shot fired, never saw any of the war because he was always below decks. But his ship got hit and, I believe, sunk at some point in the war.

Said the metal was so hot that the bottoms of his shoes melted off by the time he made it topside.
