Countdown: Obama Stonewalling on Don't Ask Don't Tell

"The President is Goddamned wrong on this." -KO 6/30/2009

Olbermann is just covering his bases, no real problem there. I don't mind the voice.

I think we're dealing with the concept of Triage here, though.

One has to decide a heirarchy of critical issues. It's not a commentary on the amount of importance the issue has... ALL issues are important to someone.

I'll be gay now, I'll be gay later... Other things need attention NOW. That's how you start to decide.

In a generation we could change the world by valuing children and education/science above all else. I see Obama making a STRONG push in that direction, beginning before his presidency and continuing. Stem cell cocktail anyone???

The US NEEDS to not have to have a military reach so large we can't sustain it... Having no military solves the problem of having to decide who's in it, doesn't it now...

This is one of those cases where I like the position of the pieces on the board more than I like what Obama himself is doing. Let's review the rough sequence of events:

1) Obama says in declarative terms that it will be repealed.
2) Obama refuses to do anything aggressive or short-term about it that will just "embolden" the opposition.
3) The human rights activists get fed up with #2
4) The human rights activists scream at the grassroots to get fired up on the issue
5) People like Olbermann start cursing the President for moving too slow
6) Obama says "look, this is congress's baby, get me a bill and I'll sign it"

This is the ideal playing field for making something happen.

The right is placated, the left is fired up, and the public is overwhelmingly behind repealing it.

They'll probably taunt us like this for a few months, but I suspect they'll introduce a bill this year.
