zephyresays...Weather derivatives do have a purpose. And as far as I know they're still being traded.

Nebosukesays...Even after reading the bit about weather derivatives, I have no idea what they are.
It reminds me of the Pork Futures Warehouse from the Discworld series of books. It's where the pork that will be in the future appears.
