Anti-smoking campaign

The anti-smoking campaign here just keeps getting more and more graphic, making one question the effectiveness of such a message. If actually getting mouth cancer cannot convince some people to stop, why would images of others with the disease be any more effective?

Yeah the US has a series of commercials mtv-kids style that's just as ineffective. Maybe some of you may have seen them they're called "TRUTH" or something like it. There's nothing like being preached to by a bunch of 20 year olds.
Adults cannot be encouraged or policed w/ PSA's.

If someone says "Smoking gives you mouth cancer," you could easily just shrug it off and say it won't happen to you. If you see the actual effects of what happens, then you might be more inclined to actually quit/not start.

Maybe. I know a girl who has pre-cancerous cells in her mouth, has been warned by her doctor to quit, has tried several times in the last 5 years, but cannot. She's no dummie, she understands what could happen to her, but still feels powerless.
