If you've ever read the book, "The Men Who Stare At Goats," (or saw the film starring Jeff Bridges), Russell was an instrumental figure in the origination of the CIA and military research into psychic ability: research which set the foundation for much of the exploration and implementation of psychic "spying" during the Cold War.

This video briefly introduces Russell in his home (in which I've been) and his work, and at the end indicates references for further research, if you're so inclined.

As an aside, in my meetings with Russell, I've always found him to be quite earnest (but not insistent) that the phenomena which extend beyond our material contact with the world is far more porous or permeable than many of us tend to believe. And that, to me, is enough to find this work fascinating.
