I just watched the film for which this is a trailer, and it is amazingly powerful. I'm going to go on at length about it in the part of the post that won't really show with the thumbnails.

This movie is about the real-life murder of Sylvia Likens by Gertrude Baniszewski in 1965 in Indiana. One of the things about it that is unique (in my experience) for a "true crime" movie is that the actual crime in real life was much worse than what is shown in the film. A woman, in charge of the well being of a 16 year old girl not only abused her, but had her own children and neighborhood children abuse her, until the abused child was dead.

So the cinematic question is, how could this have happened? Ellen Page is amazing. She did tons of research about torture victims, and she's so believable. Catherine Keener, as Gertrude, is also amazing. If there is any chance at all of not hating the worst villain I've ever seen on screen, Ms Keener can do it.

I recommend the movie. It's about humanity's darker side, but it isn't completely dark.
