A wake up call from the US Government Accountability Office

David M. Walker is the USA's chief accountability officer. He produced this video to inform the general public of the United States' unsustainable financial practices.

Walker has compared the present-day United States with the Roman Empire in its decline, saying the U.S. government is "on a ‘burning platform’ of unsustainable policies and practices with fiscal deficits, chronic healthcare underfunding, immigration and overseas military commitments threatening a crisis if action is not taken soon.

Update: David Walker resigned his post on Feb 15th, 2008.

Communist! Hippy terrorist!

Why the hell are people not paying attention to this stuff? The leading Republicans are promising tax cuts and threatening continued (or expanded) war and spending. The Democrats are proposing massive expenditures to boost the economy and provide universal healthcare. WTF? The government can't even afford to pay for Medicare, much less health care for everyone! Denial is everywhere i turn. Yes, i know Ron Paul is pushing hard for fiscal responsibility, but no one appears to be listening except online.

when you put it all in numbers it's easy to say "awwww whatever, someone will take care of it"

like a child asks for more and more pocket money.
