4 of 5 Rep Candidates - Iraq War is Worth Lost Lives & Money

JohnnyMackerssays...

It makes me a saaaaaaaad panda that Ron Paul won't be elected president. Not being defeatist, but the polls are saying so.

If, somehow, another smart suit, fake smiles and bullshit spouting republican monkey is elected I and the rest of the world will lose all faith in America. Not that you might care.

I LOVE how none of them save for Paul actually answered the question.

Yeah...the rest had to dance around the question because they didn't want to flat out say "yes" it was worth it. BTW...the outburst of applause that Paul got was about the only one during the whole debate I believe.

McCain, Romney, and Giuliani very clearly said that they supported it. I'm all for Ron Paul (It's pretty sad that he won't get the nomination) but it is a misrepresentation to say that all of the others didn't answer.

yay, I can't wait til this attitude of pre-emptive attacks "just in case" trickles down to law enforcement. Think of how much less crime there will be if we raid, incarcerate, and execute everyone with a past criminal record, because we believe that they might be a threat again.

Ugh... huckabee makes me so mad... that we should THANK the president for needlessly invading iraq?? seriously wtf? Sure, there was a potential for WMDs, but we should have pulled out 3 years ago when we found that they aren't even there.

now Huckabee says, "just because we haven't found any, it doesn't mean they're not there"

answering me this, bibleman, is the war in Iraq really still focused on finding WMDs? if we went by your rhetoric, we'd still be looking, eh?

I disagree with Ron Paul on quiet a few things, but what he said there couldn't have echoed my own thoughts and words on the matter more closely. I'm glad someone like him is running on the republican side because of all places that's where those words need to be spoken the most.

Just don't be blind to the dems role in all of this. Bush took us to war with Iraq because both republicans and democrats gave him the thumbs up. Even though most of the dems in congress try to play it off like they are against this war...what have they done to stop it since they were put back in the majority?

One might argue that the true evil is not the republicans who supported this war then and now...but it's the dems who tell us they are against the war and how bad the republicans are who support it and yet they just stand to the side and do nothing to stop it.

Sad panda aside, you're still going to vote for him, right? Even if he isn't elected, a significant % of votes for a 3rd party (c'mon he's not really republican now is he?) would be a neat thing. Could lead to less fail in the future.

I guess if given the choice between a douchebag, a turd sandwich, and a guy that I like but don't think will get elected, I will vote for my guy. Remember what South Park taught us - it doesn't even matter if you vote for the douchebag or the turd sandwich, because you're gonna end up cows anyway.

Oh I'm not. My opinion of many of the democrats has been severely marred by their support of the war. I'm glad most of them are now against it, and support a withdraw, but it doesn't completely make up for their support in the first place. At the time all this was going down I didn't think they had the evidence to show it was certain Saddam had WMDs and that it was certain Al Qaeda and other terrorists were being trained and sponsored in Iraq. To me the evidence seemed to show they didn't have those things. But then i don't know what evidence congress and the senate was presented with, the Bush misinformation machine was certainly working at full steam back then.

More over post 9/11 is a time I like to refer to as, WHEN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY LOST ITS FUCKING MIND. Reason, logic and philosophy went straight out the damned window and the country seemed to act like a pack of feces flinging pissed off chimpanzees that mindless attacked anything that seemed remotely threatening. And now it seems the country is trying to collectively play it off, 'oh gee we were lied to'. I call bullshit on that excuse, everyone was too caught up in the fear mongering and cock waving to stop and think or to give a shit about principles. Frankly I think the entire country should feel ashamed about what happened here, I feel ashamed and I didn't even support the iraq war, I still called my freedom fries french fries, and I didn't assume Muslim was another word of murdering nutcase. I think the true evil is how the country reacted as whole, and how it continues to skirt around responsibility.

Come on Grimm - you're smarter than that. Imagine yourself as a junior senator on the intelligence committee being fed bogus data, and with little access to the full story going on inside the intel community (cheney's strong-arming, etc.).

As for the failed promises of 2007, again, a freshman senator like Jim Webb for instance, wouldn't have a chance in hell of getting a bill to deauthorize Bush from conducting offensive operations in Iraq to the floor. No doubt that Reid deserves mountains of disdain for doing little more than calling for repeated votes on useless bills for no other purpose than to score political points. But don't throw out the baby with the bath water.
