World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria (Preview Trailer)

You people are all nuts. Maybe it's my general interest in Asian culture speaking, but this looks pretty awesome to me. I honestly do not get why everyone is reacting like this is the worst thing since Jar Jar Binks. Someone seriously needs to explain that to me. What looks so bad about this?

Since you asked...
Since launch, WoW has been a remarkably shallow game. It's success is attributable to oooh, shiny!, furry culture and, most importantly, people's tendencies to gambling addiction. The WoW team is kinda infamous for not coming up with any new or interesting ideas.
So when they suddenly whip out a new expansion that's based on an April fools prank by one of their artists from 6 or so years ago, yeah, it seems especially cheap. No matter... the furries will gobble this up and the money will continue to roll in.

Well sure, I mean, I can understand why some people dislike WoW in general. And of course those people aren't going to like this, because ultimately it's more of the same.

What I'm asking is why people who are actually fans of WoW are reacting so vehemently to this.

I cancelled my account last week...this won't bring me back to the game. I'm off to try SW:TOR and if that isn't great well I guess I'll have to play something else. I liked WoW a lot which is why I played it for 6 years...that's enough for one game I think.

You poor thing. Come, rejoin society.

Pandarans have been part of the lore since WarCraft III, and people have been wondering when they'd be implemented in World of Warcraft for years. So while it may seem like they're trying to do some cheap cash in on kung-fu panda, hell maybe they are, but its not like players who have any sense of the lore didn't expect they'd show up at some point.

Yeah. It sorta makes sense that they are available for both races (though it may smack of laziness to some people), since they were neutral heroes (lore-wise and in-game) to begin with in Frozen Throne.

I've been done with WoW since the release of Cata so I feel nothing but indifference towards it, but the original EQ is on expansion #17; so I suspect WoW will certainly continue for awhile if it's comparative success is anything to go by.

I'm glad they at least added a new class.

Gosh, you do have a lot of curiously specific life experience on this topic, don't you? I won't repeat myself, I've answered your points already.

Actually, my belief that gaming in general is a waste of time is an opinion. That you don't agree with that is your opinion. I gave my reasons, mainly being my own obsession with games and spending a good deal of my life playing them. Most of the gamers I have ever known also spend most of their life playing video games. The only gamers I know that don't are people like fuantum who are married and their wives won't tolerate it. Gaming addiction is a real problem..a huge problem..people die from it, relationships break down from it..I have a sister who hasn't left her room since world of warcraft came out. A gamers life shouldn't be glorified..it's actually rather pathetic. Just because you can simulate having other people around with multiplayer doesn't make it any better. Yes, gaming has had some cultural impact, but that doesn't prove anything to me. I think 99 percent of what culture produces is a gigantic waste of time..bread and circuses if you will. Matters of significance are never really spoken about because we are all too busy getting our entertainment fix.

There you go again - the point wasn't that you expressed your opinion, it's that you think that games are a waste of time. Is reading a great novel or going to see a play a waste of time, too? And what makes you think that people who play games don't participate in the world in other ways? You miss the point too in that I wasn't claiming gamer cred, I was suggesting a list of games that are culturally significant to a greater or lesser extent. And, most importantly, you miss the point in that you believe this video endorses gaming "as a lifestyle", rather than being the fun celebration of games that it is.
>> ^shinyblurry:
How can I miss the point by expressing my opinion? I've played most of those games, and multiplayer gaming is basically all I did for many years. The point isn't that gaming isn't fun, it's that spending all of your time immersed in gaming is missing the point. The Earth is the world that is in trouble, and plenty of things need our help and attention. The real adventure is getting out there and doing something about it. If you want to talk about gamer cred, I have it..I personally contributed to games universally held to be some of the best of all time. I was in the arcade playing pac-man when I was four years old. So, it isn't a lack of experience that I say this. Like anything gaming is great in moderation, but it shouldn't be a lifestyle as this video suggests.
>> ^FlowersInHisHair:
Dammit Shiny, why do you always have to miss the point? This video is awesome, and gaming is awesome, for the reasons the song says and more. Gone are the days when gaming was 'solitary'. Gaming is a shared experience now: you're losing out if you've never played Mario, or Portal, or GTA, or Angry Birds, or Call of Duty, or Sonic, or Monkey Island, or LittleBigPlanet, or Guitar Hero, or Left4Dead, or MineCraft, or even BeJeweled, dammit. And not just because of the multiplayer games on that list that are a literal shared experience, but because these are cultural touchstones, even if you play them by yourself. Everyone knows the Mario theme, and everyone knows the cake is a lie (or is it?). There are games out there that are so good that not playing them is like never seeing a production of Hamlet, reading To Kill a Mockingbird or hearing the White Album.

World of Warcraft - Fucking Furry Panda Class Leaked -

>> ^RFlagg:

Even if this is the next expansion, and that is possible since they did register the trademark for it (but with Diablo 3 coming out, not sure they would risk splitting the player base and hold off on an actual expansion for a while later, then again Cataclysm isn't doing as well as they hoped and they said they want faster times between expansions... and I would guess there will be some Titan info coming out at this years BlizzCon which would also take away the expansions thunder), this doesn't mean the Pandarens will be a playable race. I doubt they would let them be a playable race unless they have a mechanic to let it be neutral. He kept calling it class rather than race, but as to their classes, I would guess there would be some sort of martial art type class that would be unique to them, and I would guess they would kick ass if they were playable. If it is a WoW expansion, and I doubt it, then I doubt they are playable and likely just the area that opens up, and neutral to both sides, but plenty of beer available, and perhaps a brewers secondary profession.
My guess is that the Mists of Pandaria is likely a mobile app or Facebook/Google + type app rather than a proper WoW expansion. Either way I am sure BlizzCon will answer that.
My BlizzCon predictions are that it will largely be about Diablo 3, with Titan getting some initial details to expand on the earnings report that said it will be a casual game... I take casual to be like Farmvile, others say WoW itself is casual so who knows what they meant by Titan being casual. Mists of Pandaria will be a third also ran story if it is indeed just a mobile or social gaming app.

If you're a FPS gamer that takes his shit serious you want a CRT. My parents threw away a realllllly nice 120hz 19inch CRT because they thought it was junk. I was so mad. Its really fucking hard to find good CRTs since nobody makes them, and the 120hz LCD on the market just aren't as good as the old tech (and they are expensive), even if they don't take up the entirity of your desk.
tl:dr Don't mock the microwave monitor

Agreed. It is impossible to find NEW ones too.
