School accomodates Islam to keep its students from skipping
>> ^SDGundamX:
After reading this article and this article on the topic it doesn't seem like hypocrisy. Rather, it seems like Canada is similar to the U.S. in that all students have a constitutional right to pray at school so long as that prayer does not interfere with learning. The prayer service isn't costing the school any money, nor are they requiring any students to attend the prayers. The school is a free speech forum and that speech is protected even if it is religious in nature. In the U.S. there's lots of case law to back that up (see, for example, US Supreme Court cases Widmar v. Vincent and Good News Club v. Milford Central School for more info).
If Hindis or Christians want to have a prayer services or atheists have meetings, they are free too also. Seems like sour grapes to me that they didn't think of it first.
EDIT: What has been banned since 1982 is school-led prayer, not an individual's right to pray.
It's not about individuals praying on their own. It's about the school organizing the prayer and bringing in an imam of their choice.

Over time
Jim Henson (RIP) had a beard - That looks more like Vincent Price with creepy-looking, zombie-Kermit-clones!
Catherine Zeta Jones and Lasers... and... um
I fap'ed to this wonderful Welsh booty a decade ago, when I saw Entrapment. Still, Vincent Cassel is the man you want if a field of lasers has to be negotiated.
Craig Ferguson's Banned Dr Who Cold Open

I've not really seen episodes of Dr. Who. But from the clips I have seen, it seems silly. I don't get the rabid fascination people have with it.
I've only watched since the relaunch in 2005, so I can't speak to the older episodes, but you're not entirely wrong. It's very lighthearted most of the time and the 'science' part of scifi is downplayed most of the time. You won't find detailed explanations of the technology or, in many cases, any explanations.
I think the biggest draw is the focus on cleverness. The Doctor operates like Sherlock Holmes and the way a show's mysteries get tied together at the end is often very interesting.
Every time the Doctor regenerates (ie: the role is taken over by a new actor) I think I'm going to hate the new one and so far I've been wrong every time. It's refreshing that the show has a built-in way to go in a new direction without shattering the fiction. David Tennant and especially Matt Smith were/are both great at being somewhat silly characters who periodically become remarkably bad-ass with a few well delivered lines.
I recommend Vincent and The Doctor as, probably, my favorite episode from the most recent season. "Blink" from a few seasons back was much loved for its very creative new villain, but I can't find a working copy online.

Mm, no, in fact its designer Vincent Connare says it was originally intended for Microsoft Bob, the patronising interactive Windows interface for the, er, technologically challenged. Mind you, Even if it had been chosen for use in MS Bob it still would have been shit.
I stand corrected. I do remember reading about Comic Sans being more legible for dislexics, and it seems there are actually a few dislexic-friendly fonts based on it -
http://www.dyslexic.com/articlecontent.asp?CAT=Dyslexia%20Information&slug=67
but yes, the original designer did intend it for Bob
http://www.connare.com/whycomic.htm
(it's weird though, the story says he was too late for Bob, which was released in '95, even though he made the font in '94. I couldn't find a release date for MS 3D Movie Maker, which was first app to include it)

I just watched it. I'm a bit irked. What about the hatch?! Seriously?! It felt like another X-Files season finale to me, but I expected that. If you remember, the show creators promised us it wasn't purgatory or the crew wasn't dead. They. Lied.
If you liked it, I think you may be justifying it like the girls who are sexually abused by daddy yet still think he loves them.
What about the hatch? I don't think there was anything about the hatch that was left completely ambiguous -- that seems to be one of the few elements on the show that didn't really leave any lingering questions. Am I forgetting something?
As for the show creators lying about it not being purgatory, they weren't. I'm not sure if you're making this mistake, but a lot of people seem to be making the incorrect assumption that the entire show was some kind of afterlife for these characters, which isn't the case. Just the flashsideways.
Look, I can completely understand the complaints from the "not enough answers!" people. But I was mostly satisfied with the amount of answers we got. It probably helps that I've only watched every episode once, when they originally aired. Plus I have a terrible memory. So I don't even remember a lot of the specific questions that were left unanswered.
I don't know, I just thought there was something really satisfying about a conclusion that gave all of our characters such a happy ending, especially on a show that didn't seem to lend itself to such a happy ending for its characters. There was something kind of nice about seeing, say, the Sayid/Shannon reunion. Or the Sawyer/Juliet reunion. I also liked the final moments, with Vincent lying down next to Jack, to be with him as he dies. And of course the last shot of Jack's eye closing. Good stuff, man. I don't care what anyone says.
Anti-gay, Anti-black Hate Leader Killed by black teen
Re: "Barret, a prominent racist and homophobe was murdered after soliciting sex from Vincent McGee, AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN man. Could it be any more ironic, folks?"
The video summary is factually incorrect. (It asserts certainty for a statement that is very uncertain.) A murderer telling a story that's in his best interest and his defense attorney being 'kind of sure' doesn't = fact.
Science, it works.
The Black Hole - Final Hell Sequence
Coincidence thread... I too have those cool action figures. When I broke my little vincents legball off he became a post op transbob.
I saw this on DVD for $5 and picked it up, really takes me back. I remembered the music particularly, and I love anything with Ernest Borgnine and Roddy McDowall.

Excuse me, @<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.videosift.com/member/longde" title="member since April 8th, 2009" class="profilelink">longde, but if you're going to speak of the great "red robot" then you must call him by his name: Maximillian! Have you no respect for geeks?!
I used to have him and Vincent as action figures. What an awesome movie in my memory. I refuse to watch it again and taint it.
I had the same two action figures. VINCNENT's head always squashed back into his plastic body with a very satisfying snap.
