How To Arrange A Threesome

Child Bankrupts Make-A-Wish Foundation...

uhhh.... is this real? fark that! im not sending any money to an organization who is to stupid to let something totaly absurd happen to them.

Yeah.. umm no its not real. The onion specializes in fake news stories that look and feel real, but in the end leave you feeling unsatisfied, just like that doll I keep in my close... wait a second, why am I telling you this? Uh, never mind that.

Mike Huckabee Denies Evolution

rychan says...

If your intuition is that evolution has come about by completely random mutations then it is indeed hard to believe. How can you go from proto humans to humans in hundreds of thousands of years with random changes to base pairs? How can thousands of generations of tiny random variations have produced the huge changes we see?

I think any reasonably smart person will understand that the selection process (natural selection) is not random, but the interesting questions are about the proposal function / mutation function.

I guess the thing is that we've evolved to evolve faster and more efficiently. Organisms can have small mutations which turn off, turn on, or duplicate entire, complex systems. The organisms which have the genetic machinery to adapt more quickly are the ones that survived.

If you think about it, billions of years of evolution haven't just produced organisms which are well suited for the environment, they've produced organisms well suited to rapidly mutate in plausible ways for changing environments. And you could keep going to meta levels like this- the organisms with the most success don't just have the highest rate of successful mutation (first derivative), they have the best ability to propose and incorporate new sets of mutations (second derivative) into their toolbox of potential changes, etc, etc...

I think the standard science textbook explanation of "random mutations" is intellectually unsatisfying. How much genetic material per generation is changing on average? What are the mechanisms for these changes? Why not spend a few extra paragraphs on this stuff.

My statement was more towards the overreaction in the news report. They always do that. They act like hotels are trying to screw you over. It's just a byproduct of efficiency and profit for the hotel and the unsatisfying perfunctory job these people have.

wash you're own shit then. Why would you be so naive to expect that the maids that clean so many rooms a day for minimum wage give two shits about your dirty-ass mouth?
I wasn't saying that I use those glasses. I just use the wrapped plastic ones. Or my own if i have them (water bottle/nalgene etc)

Ninja Parade Slips By Unnoticed

Jesus Loves You (conditionally)

bamdrew says...

well, theo, my understanding is...

Jesus loves you, but also allows bad things to happen. Why? Well, the standard response goes like this; we are given free choice, which allows us to do good and bad, and also grow in character. When good or bad things happen to us because of our actions or because of random chance this is a product of our freedom, and will help build us all into the person God wants you to be.

Boiled down a bit, but its basically all there. Pretty general and unsatisfying, eh?

Sunshine

I saw this flick a couple weeks ago. It's like Event Horizon if it were directed by a competent filmmaker. That being said, it takes an unsatisfying 90 degree turn in the third act like many Danny Boyle movies.

Moore vs Blitzter

Enzoblue says...

@ Slyrr

Very simple bro. Medical Insurance in America is FOR Profit. The less care and less procedures people receive, the MORE profit Medical Insurance companies get. Therefore, medical insurance companies try everything within the law to limit people receiving care or procedures. Yes, it is that simple. With socialized medicine, they've got NO reason to withhold care other than medical reasons. Insurance has the second highest profit margins next to banks.

It's also sort of an oligopoly, most people are stuck with the insurance company that their employers offer and can't shop around if they're unsatisfied. It may be different if the market was flooded with health insurance companies and they really had to compete, but as of now people are usually locked in. (I'm just saying if I was a free market capitalist, this would make me feel better.)

Jeremy Clarkson Destroys the Lada

spoco2 says...

You know, as much as I love Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson and his ways... the final destruction of this lada was very, very unsatisfying... they could have, you know, ACTUALLY destroyed it, instead of pre-cutting it and rigging it with explosives...

Not good... not good no vote.

Why are we friends with Saudi Arabia?

gwaan says...

Looking at your answers to these questions it is clear why the atheism of Dawkin's will never appeal to most people. Although it may appeal to our reason, it doesn't appeal to our hearts. Take your answer to the question 'Why do we exist?'. You state that "That question can plainly be answered by science. We exist because of natural selection and simple laws of physics that have been operating since the beginning of the universe." That is a good answer. But it is not an answer to the question I asked. I asked WHY do we exist - not HOW do we exist. Natural selection and the laws of physics may explain HOW I came to exist in a physical sense. But they do not explain WHY I exist. You may not like my distinction between HOW and WHY, and you may say that asking WHY I exist is nonsensical. But the problem you face is that the vast majority of people are seeking an answer to WHY they exist not HOW they exist. And if you try and equate the two questions then the answer you provide is deeply unsatisfying.

BBC Panorama Reporter John Sweeny Explodes

LePierre says...

I'm sorry but after watching the documentary I got the impression that the reporter wasn't very capable for the job. He wasn't ever level headed and acted as if he had no idea what he was getting into.

His resulting outburst and overly ignorant manner cut his insider access short and resulted in an unsatisfying dive into the cult that barely presented anything at all.

If a more 'hardened' journalist was in his place I think we could've got a better documentary.
