Caricaturist John Kascht explains his work as he draws Conan

TED: Paul Root Wolpe: It's time to question bio-engineering

conan says...

Absolutely fascinating. Although i think ethics really won't matter in this area, unfortunately. I guess it'll be a step-by-step process: no one will sit down and say "hey, i'll make a four-armed glow in the dark human superbaby" but in many little steps we'll get there. countries will soften their laws bit by bit to gain technological supremacy, individual scientits will "bend" the laws little by little and over the years we'll get to the designer baby stuff.

Yes, sounds pessimistic but IMHO men always has done everything technology provided him (and used most of it as a weapon to kill his fellow men).

Angry Video Game Nerd: Pong Consoles

I don't think it is beside the point. This video had a lot of potential to be interesting. I too felt it was ruined by the character. There's a ton of history in that room, and a little research could have made it absolutely fascinating. The "anger" was offputting.

This thing was designed by people who had never heard, and didn't hear for at least another decade, the term "experience design" and somehow one of the wires broke in the 35 FUCKING YEARS IT'S SURVIVED. How annoying that must be. What a piece of shit it was. Ha! I have an XBox.>> ^shponglefan:

I generally enjoy the Nerd's videos, but there are times when he shits me.
His complete lack of knowledge of even the most simple of electronics baffles me when he collects old consoles...

He's playing a character dude. The real guy probably could fix the stuff, but that's besides the point.

Indeed. He definitely has/had some issues, but it certainly led to a great narrative! And I love how down they get on creepy Jeffery Ross and his subliminal manipulation techniques. It's funny that that subculture exists and how passionate they are about it.

The book also shows how unstable he is. Hes a titty baby.
I do think the whole seduction society is pretty interesting. it's obviously working.

I met the ever flamboyant Mystery at a club in LA once, as well as some of his crew including a couple of season 1 contestants. He actually seemed like a pretty cool guy and was quite gracious when I "opened his set" (talked to him). Also, Neil Strauss's book The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists which is pretty much all about Neil's life as Mystery's wingman was an absolutely fascinating read.

French Foreign Legion

Absolutely fascinating documentary.

The coolest bit is near the end when Schwarzkopf was made a member of the Legion after Desert Storm. They gave him a card with a phone number on it. He was told that if he ever got into trouble anywhere in the world, he should call the number and they would come to his aid.

Trier and Journalist have heated words over "Antichrist"

enoch says...

so,
mel gibson can drop a giant turd of a movie, where we were subjected to almost no story, but over an hour of incredibly detailed brutalization, but that was about christ....and mel made gazillions.the film was praised as being so inspiring and spiritual...
no..it wasnt.it was glorified torture wrapped in religious dogma.
you can dress up a turd in barbie clothes..its still a turd.
now this man brings a film about a character that the majority of christians are absolutely fascinated about.(revelations is the NUMBER ONE discussed biblical text.)
what exactly did these people think the movie was going to be like?
the pure hackery of those "left behind" books?how can you go to a movie titled "antichrist" and expect to not see a fairly dark movie?
and then have the audacity to feign indignation?offense?
good! maybe they needed to be offended...
its about the ANTICHRIST,not bunnies prancing with kitty cats,
for the love of everything stupid!
i for one cant WAIT to see this now!

My Favourite Salvia Video - Driving on Salvia

GoShogun says...

Smoking salvia has been one of the most interesting experiences of my life. I smoked it once on the tail end of a mushroom trip and I saw everything in fractals but the trippiest part was that each segment of the fractal I was seeing was moving at different times and speeds. So when I looked at someone talking, for example, I actually experienced seeing one side of his mouth move and then the other side later on for the same word spoken.

Another time, I experienced a complete disconnect from my perception of time. Not sure how to describe it, but I felt like I was in yesterday, today and tommorrow all at the same time. I had been sitting earlier on then somehow managed to gather the strength (and courage) to stand and take a few steps yet my brain seemed to be "experiencing" both the sitting and the standing at the same time. It was the closest feeling I ever had to being many places at the same time.

Some people would find this freaky and that's understandable. I thought it was absolutely fascinating and I'd recommend it to anyone at least once.

I don't know what it is because it's mostly boring, but I'm nailed to my seat for every one of these videos. I find them absolutely fascinating. Maybe it's because I wish I could travel there. Or perhaps I'm interested by the reactions of everyday Japanese folks to the camera. Not sure, but I can't take my eyes off it. Scorsese couldn't have done better.
I wonder what it would look like if it was filmed in the US. My guess is people have tried but they never saw their camera again.

My thoughts exactly, well except for the youdienow part.

Oh and, i didnt know that there are fat people in japan
