Those burns will require a couple of months worth of dedicated medical care and treatment. Possibly a few skin grafts if they are concerned about scarring. In all honesty those individuals were not his friends.

Inglorious Basterds Epic Bloopers - "Hi Sally!"

Quboid says...

Possibly not, he'd have to get more scars to hide it. When I say "an unrecognisable mess", I mean his swastika, not his whole face. He's not going to win any beauty contests but it's better than what would have happened to him if the Basterds hadn't intervened, getting blown up in a theatre or if he's lucky, spending his life running from Nazi hunters.

(What's up with quotes? Videosift seems to be mucking them up.)

Were skin grafts that great back in the 40s? If he had to scar his whole face up, that'd still be terrible for a character like him

I watched this film again recently, having absolutely loved it the first time, and found myself enjoying it less than I expected. Mainly because of the excessive use of the 'person is dead / no they're not not they're really just pretending' trick, which I thought was a bit cheap. It happens at least twice at key points in the film (the woman in the bar fight scene, and then the German war hero in the cinema scene).
Don't get me wrong - Tarantino is a God, and the suspense he creates in scenes is brilliant, and the Jew Hunter was pure awesome - but there were a few bits that I found a bit cheap on second viewing. I don't think it hangs together as a film as well as Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs.
So there.

Spoilers
This bugged me but what really annoyed me is this: what did the Basterds actually achieve? The only difference they made to the big ending is that they helped the main baddie! Landa (Christoph Waltz, in a superb performance) to survived, and got a nice life in the U.S. because of them screwing up the assassination attempt, at the cost of some plastic surgery. They were counter productive!

Survive with a fat swastika on his head

That could be fixed with plastic surgery, or if that wasn't available, he could get more slices in his face to change it into an unrecognisable mess. Claim he was hit by shrapnel while saving children from Nazis.

Good Reason To Wear Leather Pants

I don't do stunts on my motorcycle and I wear more protection than these guys. I'm wondering if maybe I'm being too cautious sometimes!

Too cautious is better than skin grafts.
This video why I don't do group rides. For some reason the presence of other bikes turns some people into suicidal morons, which is fine except they might fall off in front of me. Throw in a camera and the asshat factor hits 9001.

I agree you're probably right I would never suggest anyone have exposed skin anywhere on their body. I just think I may be over doing it in the armour department

The Dudesons: Epic Fail Compilation

When bullied kids snap...

SDGundamX says...

First, I just really want to thank you for sharing something this personal with us. I agree doing nothing and just letting the bullying happen is bad. But I disagree that violence is the only or best solution to the problem. I'm not trying to dismiss what you went through, but you kind of made my point from my post above--this reacting in violence just perpetuates the cycle of violence. According to your own account, those guys that bullied you stopped bullying you and moved on to others who couldn't fight back. And you actually became the (verbal) bully yourself after that kid came back from surgery.

Am I saying you shouldn't have defended yourself? No. I don't know the particulars of your situation. All I'm saying is that when we send the message to kids that "standing up to bullies" means kicking the shit out of them we're not solving the problem at all--we're in fact perpetuating it and setting up tragedies, like that kid whose lip you tore off in your rage.

Just to make it clear, I'm not saying anything you did is wrong. As someone who experienced bullying I totally relate to everything you said--including calling that kid asslips after he got back to school (probably would have done the same thing when I was a kid). I'm just pointing out this video shows basically nothing has changed since you were a kid--kids get bullied, snap, and do things that they might later really regret. The bullies meanwhile move on to weaker targets. They cycle continues. It just seems to me that as a society we need to come up with a better solution than meeting violence with violence.

it depends where you live.
where i grew up if you didnt stand up for yourself they would eat you alive and make your school experience a living hell.
why?
because some kids (who then grow up with the same mentality) crave to dominate who/what they perceive as "weaker" in order to counter their own sense of unworthiness and helplessness.
i was a pretty easy going kid and really had no desire to do violence (still dont) but in 8th grade one kid started working me over..small things at first..and i did my best to avoid any confrontation.
within 3 months i had a list of kids picking on me.
i started missing school due to "stomach aches..mystery fevers etc etc".i was petrified to go to school because of these kids.
understand i was not a small kid,i was already 6" by then and strong as an ox.i just had no desire for confrontation or violence but i have an incredibly volatile temper.
the pressure finally built up to a point i could no longer control my temper and with in ONE week i unleashed all that pent up rage/hurt and fear.
i still remember their names.
i still remember what i did to them.
one kid i beat SO bad and in such a violent rage actually RIPPED his bottom lip off.
they literally had to take skin grafts from his asshole to reconstruct his lips.
my friends would call this kid "asslips" for the rest of the year and i would join in...but i shouldnt have.
because now when i think about it all i feel is shame.
but...no one ever messed with again...ever.
and i learned to never back down.
to step right in to whoever had the misconception they could dominate me through the threat of violence.
i learned that if i merely HINTED that i would bring a hell upon whomever messed with me was enough to make them look for another victim.
this also gave me an appreciation for those who are not violent and wish to avoid conflict so all through high school it was i who intervened for the small dude who just wanted to get to class.
the kid who was a bit odd or different.
because i understood how soul-crushing it can be for a little kid.
to this day i do not tolerate bullying.
so while spoco is correct on moral grounds.those of us who have experienced first hand bullying rejoice knowing that this kid will never be messed with again during his time in this school.
and that is not a bad thing.
both kids learned something.
one learned to stand up for himself.
the other learned that what may at first seem an easy mark to make yourself feel big and important may just be the mark who is going to humiliate you in front of your friends.
it's a win-win.

Maybe it's the edible THC, but this filled my basement with horrified, joyous laughter.

BTW, Downunder tag...was this Australia? Giving bullies the gift of Mad Max.

We'll call this internet apocrypha. Found it in the following forum archive: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-298404.html

From the archive:

HEre's what I could find about the idiot:

"In this case, "Mullet" (as his friends call him), survived after a month in the hospital. When this video was actually new, there was a forum up where he came on to answer any questions about the accident... but when the thread was avalanched with slams towards Mullet for being such a ing dumbass, they eventually closed it.

There is still this thread where a moderator had the chance to talk to the kid that taped the whole thing.... you can find it here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho...16&page=1&pp=25"

"Here are some of the highlights from the chat logs with the one guy who filmed the video:
A photo of the kid who hit the car with his face. Matt Lake a.k.a. (Mullet).

These chat transcripts are taken from another forum.

UPDATE: Paul, the video's cinematographer has left his AIM I.D. open for any questions you guys have. Pv8man999 is his address.

I contacted him, he couldn't really talk to me on AIM since he is being bombarded with IMs but he did send me a log of a previous conversation to answer any questions I might have.

Dear somethingawful forum posters
I am glad that the truth about the clip has been revealed.
As some of you may guess, I am the one who filmed the clip.
and yes I have tons of proof to back it up, such as the original full quality clip, and pictures and videos of Matt Lake (mullet). Also have pictures of mullet in the hospital which I will get from him problably within the next day or so.

I wasn't able to post on here because I didn't have an account until now.
Thank you so much for the account nailPuppy and also for chatting with me and posting the real info on here.
Sincerly

As some of you may know. There has been a tragic accident with Matt Lake (Mullet). Matt Lakes did not do it for the video, it was just a small prank gone horrably wrong. No one put him up to it, he did it on his own. But the good news is that he is recovering and is doing great.

Answer: to this day he doesent know
Answer: he still can't remember much
Question: Did you keep filming after the end of the video?
pv8man: No, we didn't keep filming, at the end of the clip I run to the car to put my camera in it. If you see the clip, I get out to run to him but then go back to put my camera in the car.

antipop59: You and your friends are Internet Celebrities!
pv8man999: I still have the original clip
pv8man999: full DV quality, non-rendered. also footage of mullet.
antipop59: Is the one on the net edited in any way?
pv8man999: no
pv8man999: I serisouly thought he was dead
antipop59: you must have been traumatized
pv8man999: I got so scared
pv8man999: yes
pv8man999: very
pv8man999: to this day me and my friends don't like to talk about it
antipop59: were you guys smoking weed? Someone thought they spotted a cigarette or a joint in the passenger's hand I think
pv8man999: cigg
pv8man999: when I came up to him
pv8man999: he was still breathing
antipop59: was he just mangled?
pv8man999: but imagine every bone from your nose down broke
pv8man999: and 5 missing whole teeth on the street
pv8man999: no blood on the teeth
pv8man999: they ripped clean out
pv8man999: he was not conscious
pv8man999: so I had to keep him on his side so he wouldn't choke
pv8man999: the ****ing ambulance took 30 minutes to get there and the hospital wasn't far either
antipop59: what about the bike kid/kids? One of them looked like he got a first-hand look at the impact
pv8man999: yeah he was pretty freaked out
pv8man999: also
pv8man999: yes
pv8man999: this really wasn't meant to happen
pv8man999: it was just a freak accident
antipop59: lol I think that goes without saying
pv8man999: and for the rest of the people that say things like .."I'm glad hes dead he deserved what he got"...with out any facts...those people can go to hell
antipop59: well let's clarify one thing. The people who saw the video and made that kind of comment were under the [wrongful] suspicion that Mullet was attacking a random kid. If this had been the case, what would you think. I'm curious
pv8man999: well if that were the case if I were a random person and I KNEW that's what they were doing...I might have said something similar
antipop59: heh ok
antipop59: how does he look post-surgery?
pv8man999: he looks kinda the same exept fake teeth
