Making a statement with your running.

Yogi says...

Did we really need Enter Sandman to do this up right? I think it's obvious that Bring Me To Life is the internets go to song.

Tibetan "Sky Burial".

TheDreamingDragon says...

Neil Gaiman wrote about this in one of his Sandman comics... a student from a necropolis went on a "field trip" to participate in this rare ritual done where burying and burning are out of the question. In the comic the bones of the interred were ground up in a mortar and mixed with blood and corn meal as the last step, then the attendants would sit around and have a small meal and trade stories with the gore still on their hands as a sign of respect to the departed.

"Or we can throw you to the vultures who will tear up your corpse-Gobble Gobble Gobble, which will be a bit of a shock if she's not quite dead!"

I wake up at 5:45am and drive 24 (or sometimes 23) minutes to work. I'm always the first one in the office so I get to enjoy solitude and silence for a couple of hours.
I am a software architect and implement systems from bottom to top and from back-end to front. I sit in front of two computer screens for my entire work day before heading home.
There I spend the rest of the day with my wife and 1.5 children, then at about 10:00pm start working on my contract software projects. I recline with my laptop on my lap as I work until 1:00-3:00am depending on the night (and how hard Mr. Sandman is punching my eyes shut).
Creating software and seeing it in action is my passion and I love everything about it. The only difficult part of my work is not having enough time in the day for it now that I'm a parent (and Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle" starts looping in my head when I even consider working instead of spending time with my boy).

Yeah, it worked for one person, therefore it necessarily works for 100% of people who appear in some way similar to that one person. Good logic. I hear the Romney campaign is looking for a foreign policy spokesperson. You should apply.</sarcasm>

Just goes to show you, all those scooter-bound "disabled" fat people that you see riding around the supermarket CAN become normally functioning humans if they really wanted to.

I get what you're saying, it's not completely insensitive and some people need the extra push that a little cynical doubt can bring. In fact, a lot of people need that.

BUT...

The story of people who were once very physically fit, who get injured and then bounce back, is a really common scenario. In fact, many of the pictures you see in nutrition ads and diet books of people making crazy improvements come from pictures of athletes who've injured themselves. They get hurt and then take some recovery time to allow themselves to heal up, during which they gain a lot of weight and lose muscle mass. Then they get back on the old program and sell or trade the pics for endorsements or supplements, etc.

I'm not trying to say that this video isn't impressive. Just that everyone is different.

"Im not a big fan of Ricky Gervais, but he did say in an radio-interview many years ago that the only american stand-up-artist he really admired was Patrice."
That doesn't seem right. He's always said that he was mainly influenced by American comedians.

hi sandman, i gladly admit that you are right, ofc he he was influenced by americans, but this was as far as i remember a small independant radiostation where he said something like that, and didnt feel need to mention some mainstream comedians. i cant remember his exact words, admire is likely not the right word, but he was talking about stand-up comedians, and if he had to mention one that he felt was worth mentioning, it was patrice. think it was because of his bravery and honesty, he would just talk about things as as they are and fear nothing, thats why he never became mainstream, a big hit. patrice hit me straight in the heart when i saw him first time, because im am a european that used to live in the states, and i wasnt used to seeing an american being so brutally honest about what amaericans are, talk so straight about raceism or relations between the sexes. you cant say whatever you want in the states if you want to become successful, but patrice didnt hesitate to do so. things are not only fxxked in the states, over here is the same situation, except i think europeans in some cases, not all, are a little better at admitting their flaws. patrice was a thinker, always questioning things, and therefor he saw the crazy sillyness in our lives and could make fun of it. gervais could have mentioned hicks, carlin and so on....the only humble american comedian i know of alive today is lewis black, chris rock is good at pokin fun at racism, patrice just took it one step further.
