The World Is Saved

rottenseed says...

Well wishing doesn't do much good does it. Why don't you start playing piano now? How about that kung fu? Yea if I saved every dollar from the day I started working I'd have loads of money by now. And if I started working out this time last year, I'd have a six pack. Who doesn't think like that? It's just the way it is...you spent the time they way you felt like spending it, there's no use in crying about it now.

edit: (but yea videogames are kind of just a time killer)>> ^shinyblurry:

As a used to be hardcore gamer, who spent countless hours beating hundreds upon hundreds of games, from atari 2600 on, who worked for video game companies and contributed to some of the best games ever made, I can safely say that I wish I had used all that time to do something productive. I could be a piano playing, juggling, multi-lingual artistic black belt by now. I have great reflexes, sure..I can hit a guy two miles away with a railgun without crosshairs, that's true..but I really don't think thats adequate compension for all my wonderful memories of sitting in front of a screen for a good portion of my life. When you count the time I've spent on the internet I barely register as a human being. Nostalgia is great until you process it into reality.

I really wish people would just get back into the original Quake. Not many people play it online but I still think the multiplayer game mechanics as well as the blocky, dark, graphics are better than nearly all multiplayer games to this day. I've been playing it here and there the past couple of weeks but it's usually only a couple of people from Europe.

I definitely enjoy the old arcadey shooters more than the pseudo-realistic shooters that are everywhere now, but I no longer have the reflexes required to kick ass at them.

Me too. I replayed some old games and ugh I suck in them. LOL! I don't play new computer games anymore, even demos nad betas (very rare) due to lack of free times and motivations. I do play Flash games as you can see on AQFL.net.

Crazy neighbors and taking your dog out (Blog Entry by mintbbb)

longde says...

You are a victom of apathetic and almost defiantly inconsiderate dog owners. I have (directly) seen so many people not pick up poop; and abuse the parks in my neighborhood, that I reflexively think the worst when I see behavior that may imply dog shenanigans.

Bill Maher and Eliot Spitzer school ignorant Teabagger

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Video is standard BM BS. A bunch of communists tossing out ad-hominems as a means to deflect genuine criticism of failed socialist systems in front of clapping sheep. Spitzer in particular is a complete idiot. When asked about "what do you do with the unfunded liabilities" he says a bunch of complete nonsense and then accuses the other guy of being biased. He 'changed New York'? Oh yeah - NY's medicare/medicaid is TOTALLY solvent thanks to Eliot Spitzer.

Sigh - whatever. I could go on, but on the issue of socialism far too many neolibs just don't get it. It's their religion, and trying to talk sense to them is like trying to talk sense into some whacked out fundamentalist. To them black is white, up is down, and crazy is sane. There's just no rational like of thinking they can accept.

Case in point...

Tea Partiers are obviously just angry racist Republicans

And liberals are obviously just angry, racist Democrats.

The neolib meme that people who belong to the Tea Party are racists has long ago been debunked. The Tea Party is not motivated by race. They are motivated by a desire to reduce government size, scope, and influence. To see neolibs still clinging to this race lie is pathetic. Those who continue to persist in this obvious fabrication are clearly blinkered by personal bias. Clearly a bunch of neolibs have been spoonfed their leftist talking points and had no intellectual honesty left in them sufficient to research the matter, or indeed enough to even use their brains in any way except as a trash bin in which to store the bigotry - to be parroted back ad nauseum. But that's what leftists do, isn't it? Use bigotry, race, and hate to demonize any opposing idea and then reflexively bray like a bunch of asses when some douche like BM repeats the hate.

Neil deGrasse Tyson & The Big Bang: it's NOT "just a theory"

Great talk but we have more than merely five senses, the way we were mistakenly taught as youngsters.
1) sight
2) hearing
3) smell
4) taste
5) touch
6) balance/acceleration
7) temperature
8 ) proprioception (related to touch, provides the brain with the relative positions of parts of the body. this is how you can touch your nose with your eyes closed)
9) pain
10) other internal senses (gag reflex, urinary bladder 'fullness', sensations felt when swallowing, etc)

No comment on the paperprompter?

I saw a Qi episode where they said we have about 21 or 22. Crazy huh...they didn't list them all though so I have no idea.

Bird doesn't give a flying..

AnimalsForCrackers says...

Perhaps the little guy is in a state of shock/discombobulation; from a collision with the windshield perhaps?

I've heard many a small <THUD!> against my windows only to find a small bird lying near-paralyzed on the ground outside, motionless but breathing/watching me with its eyes. The reflex to grasp things with their claws is usually still present in this state, which is convenient for transporting the poor things to the branch of a nice, quiet bush to let them recover.

Cat Hates Leash Enough To Play Dead

The dancing squid dish from Japan

spoco2 says...

That is fucking disgusting. You can argue all you like about whether or not it's still 'alive' or whether it's a reflex action. The problem is the barbaric disregard for another creature's life that is on display here.

"Look, poor hot liquid on it and it moves, HAW HAW HAW, how amusing, it's funny how the near dead creature still moves"

Fucking wrong.

There are a lot of westerners who hold up Japanese culture as being some pinnacle of human manners and decency and good... and then you look at hentai porn and the number of cruel and unusual ways they manage to eat/store/treat live animals and I have to question that a lot.

Yes we eat animals, as do a lot of other animals, it's all part of the food chain, but we should be above causing them distress and indignity merely for our amusement.

I upvote so more people can see the 'majesty of Japanese culture'.

(I am planning on having sushi for lunch... as an aside)
