Are you tired of Windows, Mac and Linux / Unix?

It looks like a much less polished, much more hardware bound knockoff of Oberon I'm all for people trying novel OS ideas, but this looks like a massive kludge with no coherent, or interesting, features, that are not already well developed in existing OSs.

Sure doing this is hard, but hard ≠ worth doing.

Have to admit, this is pretty clever. Pity they killed Courier, it was far more exciting than either the hilariously impotent Kin, or Phone 7, which really, really doesn't need to crowd the market of mobile OSs any further.

Some good points raised Farhad - but you shouldn't confuse the over-hyping Mac cult with the actual machines and software. Forget all the crappy commercials. If you judge that way, you are guilty of surface viewing and the same vapidity as the marketing spinners.

Macs are good because UI nerds are valued at Apple. The people who work at Apple to develop Mac software are passionate, anal-retentive geniuses herded by a megalomaniac.

I love Linux and OSS too. I wish Apple was Linux- I'd feel much better about my purchases, but so far democracy hasn't produced a better experience for the desktop user. (witness the Gnome KDE war - gaaah!) I'm still hopeful.

Converting to Linux ....Please (Howto Talk Post)

I think you're better off just wiping Windows out. If you dislike Linux, you can reinstall Windows. The fresh install might solve a number of your problems anyway.

I am going to STRONGLY recommend against this. The ONLY reason MS OSs are easier to set up is because they do it for you at the factory. DO NOT try and install Vista from disk, it is likely to be much more work then installing Ubuntu and getting all the drivers figured out.

I have fresh installed many versions of Win and many distros of Linux, and installing Win has NEVER been easier then installing Linux, unless the hardware was simply unusable under Linux.

I would recommend both the Ubuntu liveCD, and the application conversion that xxovercastxx suggested, and I would try them all out on Vista before switching over for good. The nice thing about FLOSS is that just about everything works on whatever OS you choose, so install the apps you are going to convert to on your current OS, make sure they work for you, and if the OS is still giving you trouble, at least you won't have to learn all new apps in a mad rush when you switch OSs.

Also check here to see if anybody else had problems installing linux on your model of laptop. Pay special attention to the wifi, and make sure it works from the liveCD.

Here are.. the lyrics!

Bamse och Lille-skutt
hoppa ut i skogen
Då kom Skalman tampelistamp
snubbla på en katt
Bamse sa:
Kom hit, kom hit kisselikisselikisselimiss

Kom in, kom in, i stugan min så ska ni få äta
köttbullar med lingon på
och glass i stora lass

Vill du inte ha nån honung
stora starka Bamse
Nej tack, nej tack inte nu för jag är så mätt

Då sa lille husmusen:
Honungen är stulen
Bamse sprang så snabbt, så snabbt
fånga Janssons katt

Ajsing bajsing lilla katt
du får ont i magen
Inte hitta på nåt bus
spring till farmors hus

Så var sagan slut
