WTF? (Blog Entry by MarineGunrock)
Soulja boy was a big Internet hit, his whole career started on YouTube. I see him as a display of the newest form of disposable commercial music, cellphone ring tones, the track is brainless, repetitive but somehow oddly appealing for the first listen. I mean 7 non consecutive weeks on Billboard is no small feat, but then again it is the barometer of brainless, disposable media as well.
But hes really a one hit wonder, EW.com summed up his album in its Worst Albums of 2007 as:
Elton John + Ru Paul = Drag Queen Goodness!
still tryin' to figure out how I reminded you of this....we we're talkin' drag queens I guess....I have never seen this viddy in m'life-Elton and KIKI DEE did it in the 70's...her one hit wonder-Drag queens do the best musical reviews, they look better and some sing better than the stars they do.....now, go and watch a Divine film.....
Our Lady Peace - Superman's Dead
Best. Tags. Ever.
The kid in the vid became a one hit wonder of his own, no?
... yes, Ryan Dennis - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Dennis
"Sausalito Summernight" by Diesel
To be candid, I remember when this song first hit the airwaves back in the day. I liked it mainly because of the unique guitar signature. Sure, it's not a timeless tune, but it really ain't bad. Maybe Diesel is yet another one-hit-wonder band, but that's still one more hit than virtually all of us will ever pen.
I'm not begging anyone to upvote this, because that's simply not my style. I'm just asking all of you to give it a listen and then cast an informed vote. If you don't find it appealing then do what your conscience dictates. Or do what your penis dictates and give it an upvote squared.

Thankyou. I'm looking at your sift now. It published quickly too, congrats. Welcome to the Sift. No one hit wonders now... let's see some more!

Shatner vs Shatner is a classic.. thanks for that it has made my day. I've put my first post up, it's called The Spirits I have called, it's kind of experimental, but thought you might like to take a peek.

Thanks. I think it is mostly due to my one hit wonder the Drama King. That kind of raised my average and I have been living off it ever since...
In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
Well, I'll keep an eye on it too. What's more is that we both now have 2008
One thing I did notice is that you have more votes per video. congrats on that!
In reply to this comment by maatc:
Guess you are right.
But hey, I´ll just keep an eye on it and if it seems at all unclear who made it to 2100 first you just get a +save anyway for sportsmanships sake!
In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
Haha Hmm.. That kinda thing is hard to keep track of, though. I'd suggest a race to 100, but I'm too far ahead for that to be fair.... but I'd be up for it. Maybe a *save?
In reply to this comment by maatc:
Congratulations! Looks like we are tied at 2006 at the moment.
Wanna race to 2100? But what does the winner get?
In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
Hey! Me too! 2004, at current. Congrats!
EMF "Unbelievable"
Two hits? Still good enough for my one hit wonder list!
Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
Here is a version of the song without pop ups:

And here is one that has them, but with a strange intro:

Not sure which one would be best to replace it.
Would love this for my one hit wonders collection...
Skeeter Davis - The end of the world
this song was a one hit wonder in the country muzak realm...! I know, it's hard to listen to and watch, eh??? Guess you got the full-effect jwray!! Hah!
Try this one on for size-
Traditional Values satire
Lumm, one hit wonders are a very real thing...
Eminem - White America
This guy still around? No?
Yep, typical rap or hip-hop or whatever they're calling it now. Artist here today, gone tomorrow. I mean, the turn-over rate beats out the one-hit-wonder boom in the 60's and 80's.
Argent - Hold Your Head Up
Man, somebody is having some flashback Parmesean tonight!!!
upvote for one hit wonders
Missing Persons - Words
Bozzio, the drummer, toured with Zappa for Baby Snakes, and of course, the film of the same name......best claymation ever, if y'd care t' watch....oh yeah, and the one-hit-wonder(2-3 maybe), was previosly a Playboy hunny......that plastic costume on MTV gotcha goin......
Walking in L.A.
Mika - Grace Kelly
Like it!....reminds of one hit wonder Darkness- "I believe in a thing called love"....
Collectives and email (Sift Talk Post)
i have to agree with farhad on capping the number of collectives ... well, i don't HAVE to agree with him, but i do ...
what if someone starts a Kittens Only ... or ... Dogs Only collective?? where does that leave swampgirl?? or if someone starts a Vintage or Relics collective? where does that leave rick?? what about a One Hit Wonders collective and then dag's?!?!?!
and having a set number of members also makes it a bit more interesting ... what's to stop someone from inviting virtually every member that ever comes across the sift??
